Badass Sean Connery returns to the role of James Bond in this video game interpretation of the 1963 film re-imagination of the classic 1957 novel, From Russia with Love.
A big change in the story of the game as opposed to the movie is the removal of the organization SPECTRE. The organization has been renamed OCTOPUS, with another change in that it lacks a main leader like SPECTRE had. The game begins with a fairly standard opening, with Elizabeth Stark, the Prime Minister's daughter, being kidnapped by OCTOPUS agents while at a formal party. Fortunately, Bond was assigned to stop just such an event occurring, and stops OCTOPUS, saving Stark in the process. Similar to the film, OCTOPUS plans to embarrass Bond for the death of Dr. No. Their plan is focused around the theft of a Soviet encoding machine known as the Lektor, using the help of a defecting Soviet agent. The agent, Tatiana Romanova, is being used to lure James Bond into a trap in which he will steal the Lektor, then be ambushed and killed for it in a humiliating fashion. Romanova is sent by Rosa Klebb, an agent of the KGB, who has secretly defected from OCTOPUS. Her assistant, Dr. Grant, helps you through the first half of the game and then betrays you during the second half. The end of the game involves a final assault on OCTOPUS headquarters.
007: From Russia with Love is in a minority among modern James Bond games, being as it is a third-person shooter. The game features an auto-aim for easier targeting, and several missions are heavily focussed around the use of machine-gun equipped jetpacks. In addition the game includes a handful of vehicular combat missions in Bond's icon Aston Martin DB5, (a car that didn't actually debut until the 1964 film Goldfinger), and a couple of on-rail shooting segments in which James takes control of a gun turret mounted on the back of a boat.
