Chris Cashman On The End Of 1 vs. 100

I didn't think to ask, but I'm almost certain that Chris Cashman, host of 1 vs. 100, learned about the social game's official cancelation the same way you and I did: via press release by Microsoft earlier yesterday morning. Head high, though, the four-time Emmy award winner had nothing but polite things to say when we spoke via e-mail about the canned show, echoing a tone and forward-looking nature he had about the show just days prior to official word.

"Yeah... bummer," he told me via e-mail, when I asked him how he was taking the news of the cancelation. "I certainly hope to get a chance to play with Xbox again, but I have no idea what its up to next."

"It wasn't that long ago that I was blown away by having colored rubber bands on my braces, so getting to host the first live videogame ever is pretty much tops," he continued. "The Live platform is so cool and the streaming content is just way ahead of the curve, so I gotta assume it's all a part of a bigger picture. "

== TEASER ==Cashman had a unique connection to a game. He was a host; he was a mover-and-shaker who dictated a flow, set a tempo, and interacted with users on a regular basis. Devs and producers are no doubt affected by cancelations, but their connection is held within the time spent ideating and creating a game, I'd imagine, rather than interactions with it.

"I'm sure they are plotting something rad. As for how I'm taking the news of 1 vs. 100 going away? Well... I've always been dramatic," Cashman said, dropping a YouTube link at the bottom of our e-mail that both explains his feelings and reinforces my belief that this guy is a warrior.

I never even got to play, bummer.

Sad stuff, I actually rather enjoyed playing 1 v 100.

1 vs 100 is my only S-rank :(

What the...This was certainly sudden.

I loved the game and Cashman hit a stride in season 2 that was really fun.  I loved his commentary on the various gamertags.

I love that man.

What is this Church or something? What's with all the depressing shit? 1 vs 100 was an excellent experiment and is sure to pave the way for more similar ventures, but has sadly been officially canceled after months of nothing. You already wrote that story earlier this week.

It's time to let it go. Nobody died. No reason to make this all depressing and mournful. Yes it sucks the dude lost his gig, but he's a talented host. I'm positive he can find something soon.

Hahaha that was great. Farewell, Cashman! I heardly knew ya!

Hey, it's tough for Microsoft to give away a couple of those 10$ points cards every other day. They had to save up for all those rad Kin advertisements.

#15 Posted by nick69 (625 posts) -

I never did win anything playing 1 vs 100.

#16 Posted by Landon (4164 posts) -

Was anyone actually playing this recently?

#17 Posted by Dad_Is_A_Zombie (1212 posts) -

Too bad about this. My wife loved this game and I used to help on sports questions once in a while. Considering all the shit on the 360 dashboard, cancelling this seems rather petty.

#18 Posted by RobJ (397 posts) -

That really sucks. When I first got an X360 that was one of my favorite things to play with my girl. A real shame...

#19 Posted by Jayzilla (2573 posts) -

was a sweet game. too bad its gone.

#20 Posted by Death_Burnout (3800 posts) -

My mind is struggling with the concept of the cancelation of a video game...show....

#21 Posted by Deathpooky (1446 posts) -

Yeah, this remains pretty terrible.  I understand the supposed business reasons behind it, but I think by far 1 v. 100 was the most popular thing on Live for gold accounts and better at creating attachment to the service than almost anything else.

That they continue to stuff XBL with ads, horrendous videos, and "game with celebs" features makes it all the worse.

Heartbreaking :'(

Agreed, she's not much into video games, but she had no problem sitting next to me on the couch to play this. Oh well, hopefully this means something else is coming.

But.... I loved getting a pizza with my girlfriend,  adjusting our minds a little bitt, and playing 1 vs. 100....

NOOO!!

#25 Posted by Diamond (8634 posts) -

My hope is they're thinking up an even better game show to put on Live soon.

They haven't had any games since the end of the second season, which was months ago. Tons of people were still playing when it was running though.

#29 Posted by Seroth (726 posts) -

I never got any achievements for 1 vs. 100. :(

#30 Posted by Burns098356GX (1366 posts) -

I haven't seen 1v100 on my dashboard for months and months, I thought it was cancelled long ago. Can they at least remove the 1v100 off my gamecard now?

#31 Posted by pickassoreborn (535 posts) -

1 vs 100 on Xbox Live was a brilliant idea which delivered. Seems strange that they would snuff it out, it was one of the jewels of the platform. I'm glad I took part when I did. Lesson for us all there - don't take stuff for granted, you'll miss it when it's gone.

#32 Posted by HonestZombie (6 posts) -

Damn, 1 vs. 100 is still the only game I've gotten all the achievements for. Well, here's hoping whatever they bring out next is cool too.

that video was magic!

#34 Posted by Jaz (22 posts) -

Bummer :/

I liked it.

#35 Posted by one_2nd (2333 posts) -

Why couldn't they just keep going? They had to be making so much profit from it. They gave away barely anything and had so many ads.

#36 Posted by Synthballs (2193 posts) -

What a bunch of fuck!

Australia never even got a fucking season of the shit.

#37 Posted by Kajaah117 (1070 posts) -

NOT LIKE THIS!

#38 Posted by Red (5994 posts) -

Service was actually pretty awesome, despite its inability to spring for good prizes. It was fun while it lasted, Christopher.

#39 Posted by Dethfish (3699 posts) -

Damn, I never got all the achievements in 1 vs 100.

At least we still have Game Room.

#40 Posted by marrec (256 posts) -

Damnit, what the hell are we (my girlfriend and I) going to do now on a Saturday night?! Go to the bar and play trivia there? Eff that.

Seriously though, I really hope they bring this style of game back in one form or another, endlessly fun for a group of people. I didn't even care that we never won any prizes.

They shut off the servers... but these servers are made of people.
Hope that helps.

This sucks. I heard that the people that worked on this is working something new. If it's for kinect I'm going to FUCKING SCREAM!

#43 Posted by Itwastuesday (986 posts) -

He and EA should partner up for Chris Cashman as the NBA Jam announcer

#44 Edited by Bionicicide (1213 posts) -

That's sad he got the news the same time as everyone else. Always thought it was Major Nelson hosting though. :/ The live shows always brought in 100,000 players if I remember correctly, good numbers.

Great numbers and have those numbers every night a live show is on is amazing. This was one of those rare moments where paying for gold was not SUCH a bad thing. Sure there was ads EVERYWHERE but it did not bother me too much. It's a shame Microsoft let this go.

You can't spell the "MAN" without Chris Cashman.

Chris Cashman is a classy champ.

Got my S Rank K thx bai.

Good riddance. I played this once and it was just a bunch of pointless trivia. Less about how smart or worldly the contestant is and more about how much People Magazine they read.
