Welcome to Giant Bomb (dot com)

Welcome to Giant Bomb: The Blog. It’s sort of like Alien 3: The Gun, only with more explosions and less track. After working on this in secret for as long as we have been, it’s totally exciting to be able to finally let you in on what we’ve been doing. I actually still haven’t gotten used to freely speaking the name of the site in public, or even typing it, really. It’s always been “The Site” or “The Thing I’m Doing” or “If Marion Cobretti Was A Website.”

So let me start by telling you what Giant Bomb is, and then I’ll briefly touch on what Giant Bomb will become. Right now, we’re opening up this blog, where myself and others will be writing about games, covering them in much the same way I’ve been doing on my personal blog for the past three months. Sometimes it will be off-the-cuff, sometimes it will be reasoned and well-thought-out. We’ll review games here, and we’ll talk about upcoming stuff, as well. We’ll occasionally chime in on the news that surrounds the game industry, both here in print, and in our podcast, which will grow out of the Arrow Pointing Down podcast that I’ve been doing with Ryan Davis for the past few weeks. Yes, we will still continue to speak our minds on the latest happenings in the beverage and snack food industries. Don’t you worry about that. We’ll talk about games there, too. Surprise!

We’ll also use this blog to talk about the site we’re building behind the scenes. There is an expert team of dudes behind the Bomb, ensuring that there will be a robust, feature-filled website at our disposal, which we’ll use to talk about games. And energy drinks. We’ll show you a bit of the process behind building a site that covers video games, like how we plan to review games, or what sort of interaction you can expect to have with the site’s community features, or what sort of equipment we’re purchasing in order to make this all possible. We’re calling this series “How To Build A Bomb,” mostly because I wanted to make sure that the Department of Homeland Security never misses an episode. The first installment is already available.

There’ll be more info in the weeks ahead, so I’ll keep it brief. But to all of you who have been following my antics for the past few months, I just wanted to say thanks for sticking it out, and I really think the site is going to blow your mind.

Wow, great news. I’ve been following the two (three, including Alex which I’m sure we’ll see here from time to time) of you since you guys left GS and it’s great to finally see what your plans are. I’ve already canceled my GS account back in december mostly because I felt they way your dismissal was handled was wrong and I’m glad I’ll have a new place to go for reviews and previews of games.

Good luck and keep up the great work.

Wow I was really hoping you would start something like this up. Hopefully it will explode (pun intended) into something huge in the future. Looking forward to reading how you two are doing and what you guys are playing. (and if you are enjoying it!) Can we hope to see the likes of one Alex Navarro poking around these parts?

    Hey Jeff,

Congrats! Just one comment, don’t stick to the fixed width OR increase it to more than right now, requires too much scrolling.
The logo on top is way too big too, i understand it must be GIANT, just make it as a bkgd.

    @m0zart:

The sections for Wii, PC, DS, and PSP will appear as we cover games on those platforms. We just haven’t written about any of those yet. Our first DS-related item will probably be a review of Professor Layton (which I still need to write).

    He’s Back

Thank god. I’ve been hopelesly searching the internet since the Ggate BS for a new home site. 1up while I enjoy there podcasts there sites layout is just Fn stupid. And everyone in there comunity should be in an emo band. Yesterday I damned near joined Destructiod. But all the people on there talk so much shit but are most likely the biggest bitches. Thank god Gerstmann you and your team are back to save the internet.

To the folks at the bomb,

Thrilled about the new site, can’t wait to what’s coming. In the mean time, I had a few
    questions:

    1. Employee roster? Can we see who’s working here other than you, Ryan and the “others” who are an “expert team of dudes”. I assume you’re being vague for a reason, but maybe you’re just too excited to type.

    2. Is that blank spot between the “xbox 360″ and “videos” tabs for the Wii? You reviewed No More Heroes on the blog, will you be dropping Wii support?

    3. I see you don’t have any advertisements, will you be taking donations outside the realm of foreign drinks?

    See you around the site.

    -Kurt

Have been a (mostly) silent reader of your blog and listener of the APD podcast, and I am stoked! I was hoping you guys would start your own site free from the ‘evil corporate overlords’ or whatever. Also, PROPS for not using the outmoded 1-100% system! 1-5 stars system is definitely a much better way to go, and actually encourages people to read the damn reviews! Very good start, can’t wait to see this thing take shape and structure. Also get Alex in on it, get Brad the hell away from Gamespot and in there and it’s already 100% gold in my book (and you can’t beat 100%)

    Even more from the GreatDane!

An article about your rating system would be great!

A login system would be cool!

More content on the side would be freaking awsome! Cant wait.

Will go look for my VHS copy of Cobra now.

Best regards from the country that brought you Hitman (and some other games)

This is Danthegamingman from the Gamespot forums (a paying five year member until they did u wrong). I am so f’n excited about the podcasts that you and Alex and Ryan are doing and this is awesome. The site is looking great so far and will mature. The “Bomb Review” is a great liner and I know your content and reviews will be of the utmost integrity. Keep up the great work and eventually get a system wars like forum for heated discussions. I will spread the good word.

Oh I can’t wait to hear the witty puns you’ll use for shows and podcasts etc. Features are going to be fun (the aptly named how to build a bomb is a fantastic start!!!)

cutting the blue wire, Bomb squad, the pipebomb or the fuse (for a mini recap or news show?), EMP, ICBM, the big bang, short circuit, oh the list goes on!
