It’s been an interesting week here at the office, with things happening on multiple fronts. For starters, this “Grand Theft Auto” game has been taking up a lot of our time. I just got the achievement for maintaining a wheelie for a set distance, and have met some great characters. So far, the office favorite […]
Jeff and Ryan fight a losing battle against sleep depravation in this very special, very felonious, very short episode of the Giant Bombcast.

We’re back from the Best Buy with GTA4 in hand, and we’ll be starting our live stream shortly.
[UPDATE] And the marathon is over! Big thanks to everyone who stuck around, hope you enjoyed what you saw. Now, time for sleep!

Just because we haven’t been talking about it non-stop doesn’t mean that our brains aren’t currently overrun with thoughts about Grand Theft Auto IV. Personally, I’m on a strict regimen of watching that totally bitchin’ GTA4 UK TV commercial every 45 minutes, which has the side-effect of causing Jeff to twitch violently in anticipation. I’ve […]

NBA Ballers: Chosen One feels like a relic, like an old arcade game that’s been given a fresh coat of paint, but no additional gameplay depth. Like an old arcade game, it’s fun for awhile, but unless you have nostalgic feelings for, well, the other two Ballers games, you’ll probably get fed up fast.
Like the […]
It’s been a weird week here at Giant Bomb. With Jeff out sick on Wednesday, and myself taking care of business at home yesterday, our momentum just hasn’t been quite right. It’s fitting, then, that today should be completely derailed by someone reminding me that Starcade is totally awesome.
Make no mistake about it, there’s […]
Dark Sector is notable for being the first “next-generation” game announced all the way back in 2004. Back then, it sort of had a stealth-action look to it, like a futuristic version of Splinter Cell. It would have been interesting to see how that game would have turned out, but I have a feeling that […]
In case you’re waiting for the Metal Gear Online beta to begin (it’s supposed to start sometime tomorrow), you might want to connect up and start downloading the 1.01 and 1.02 patches that are now available. Maybe you’ll have better luck with the download speeds than I have… I’m a couple of hours in on […]
For those of you waiting long and hard for the PlayStation 3 version of the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack, today is your lucky day. The maps are now available via the PlayStation Store for $9.99. That’s a full penny cheaper than the 360 version!
The pack contains four maps, and I happen to […]
We’ve been out seeing pre-release games lately, and as such, the office has been pretty quiet. But that doesn’t mean that we haven’t acquired a bunch of new, weird stuff. Take a look around the office and give a warm hello to Gamedeer.
On its own, Haze looks pretty alright. Developer Free Radical Design has made some intermittently solid first-person shooters with its TimeSplitters series, and the angry teenager in me still finds some appreciation for the game’s oppresive Huxleyian setting. Also, drugs.
But then Korn got involved, and now whenever Haze is mentioned, my mind immediately wanders to […]

While my initial appraisal of Microsoft’s plans to produce original (presumably premium) video content for Xbox Live Marketplace was less than optimistic, things are looking up following the revelation that writer/director James Gunn will be involved.
For those unfamiliar with the work of Mr. James Gunn, his style falls somewhere between Sam Raimi and Eli […]

It’s certainly not rare for developers to support their game post-release, especially in this day of downloadable console content, where popular map packs can bring in millions and millions of dollars in their first week of release. But most of what we’re getting is pretty standard stuff, like map packs, new skins, a mode or […]

Jeff and Ryan are joined by a very special guest this week as we discuss MKVDC, the troubled Metal Gear Online beta, the multi-instrument future of Guitar Hero, the state of Games for Windows Live, and much more!
Rocky & Bullwinkle takes the world of the 1959-1964 cartoon and clumsily crams it into a second-rate WarioWare knockoff. It’s not a bad idea, as the large cast of characters and multiple themes bring a number of different frantic and fractured microgames to mind. Well, my mind, anyway. But this Xbox Live Arcade release doesn’t […]
I’ll never be a great Ikaruga player, and that’s fine. I’ve come to terms with that. But that doesn’t mean I can’t stand at a safe distance and appreciate it from afar. While some people would claim that most 2D overhead shooter worship comes from a very pretentious place that’s usually reserved for wine snobbery, […]

While most Hollywood stars wouldn’t think twice about signing off on a crappy movie tie-in game, Vin Diesel takes games seriously–perhaps more seriously than his films, seeing as his virtual performance in The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay was much more well-received than the movie upon which it was based. Now, Midway and […]

Do you, the game-playing public, care at all about Unreal Tournament anymore? That’s a question I had to ask myself when I started playing the PC version of Unreal Tournament III after its release late last year. Personally, I was thrilled to see the UT formula updated with a new engine and new potential for […]
As hard as Las Vegas tries to sell itself as some kind of exotic, chic, adult wonderland, the truth is that–perhaps now more than ever–Vegas is a corny and absurd assault of the senses, like an episode of Entourage with the volume and contrast turned all the way up. Maybe that’s just my own residual […]

Wrestling games are weird. While actual professional wrestling places a lot of importance on the stories and feuds between wrestlers that set up the actual matches, most of the wrestling games we’ve seen over the past few console generations have been little more than clumsy fighting games with deliberately-obscured health meters. Midway’s TNA Impact might […]
