The biggest plus of being a king in the world of Crystal Chronicles is that you never have to carry the bucket. Maintaining the crystal chalice? That’s for the little people, man. Let’s throw a banquet and get a body shampoo and do whatever it is that kings do!
My Life As A King is decidedly less glamorous than I would expect a king’s life to be. This addition to the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles line has you overseeing a stripped-down settlement and building it up to prominence by adding homes, shops, and other buildings. There are some financial concerns, as these things cost money. You’ll also be able to send adventurers out to explore nearby areas and, hopefully, recover some cool stuff that will help your town thrive.
The catch is that you do most of this from a series of menus, and never venture into the dungeons yourself. That’s beneath a man of your station, of course. So instead you hold it down at home, deciding where to place buildings, what areas you want your adventurers to scope out, and generally look out for morale. If you send under-equipped adventurers out to fight on your behalf, though, they’ll come back in a box, and you’ll be greeted by a cute little skull next to their name on your daily report, which can be kind of a bummer. The game appears to take individual citizen morale into account, as you can enter a home and check to see if a person likes his siblings, parents, children, and neighbors.
It’s definitely a different take on the typical Final Fantasy style that seems kind of cool, if you’re into this level of city and citizen micromanagement. Look for it to be one of the first downloadable WiiWare titles to hit your Nintendo Shop Channel this May.

There better not be a damn bucket in this game or it’s bunk.
wow this game actually sounds really cool.
Good to see lots of WiiWare stuff coming up though, maybe small time developers like Square Enix will go big time some day…
word, that sounds pretty cool
I’m all about Final Fantasy, but I must admit that absolutely nothing about this game interests me. Strange, but there it is.
So far WiiWare gets a 2 out of 10 on the hype meter. But that of course is just my personal opinion..
lol, you guys have this game under Xbox 360?
The microtransactions completely turned me off for this game.
That’s a Wii Ware game?! Awesome, I may have to give that a go.
Hate the art style and the fact that there is no combat means this is just some lame ass city building simulator set in a Final Fantasy universe that no body really gave a shit about to begin with.
I’m sure it will sell like pancakes.
Sounds pretty cool. I love games like this.
Sounds interesting. Reminds of Roller Coaster Tycoon and you had to keep everyone happy. Those stupid janitors never cleaned enough!
Placing houses and shops, but not smashin’ fools on the dungeons…???
Man , that’s bullshit.
Wow, this is totally different from what I was thinking. sounds cool! sadly there are no demos
sounds like they are milking the final fantasy title . . . damn square enix
Why do they have to charge $15 for extra items and abilities! Give me some cheats. That is the sole reason why I won’t be purchasing this game… because I won’t be able to get the full experience unless I cough up some extra cash… I wish I shit money. I’d eat so many bran muffins.
Ooh boy, it’s MySims rehashed with a crappy Final Fantasy skin!
This might be the first time I give Nintendo money for DLC. I actually enjoy these kind of sim town management games.
