On its own, Haze looks pretty alright. Developer Free Radical Design has made some intermittently solid first-person shooters with its TimeSplitters series, and the angry teenager in me still finds some appreciation for the game’s oppresive Huxleyian setting. Also, drugs.
But then Korn got involved, and now whenever Haze is mentioned, my mind immediately wanders to one of the world’s greatest press releases. Things only got worse today when Ubisoft announced that “Haze”, the Korn single recorded for the game, is now available for money.
They’ve also released a video of a live performance of the song, synergistically inter-cut with footage from the game. Sadly, Ubisoft is requiring age-gate nonsense to post the video, but all you really need to know is that Jonathan Davis appears to be wearing a skirt. Which is, you know, edgy. I wonder what his parents must think! As an alternative, here’s a bootleg-ass “video” of the song that Jeff found on YouTube, complete with custom intro. Enjoy!
Like Serjery15 says “This is definitely…Korn.” I guess I should just be grateful that there’s never been a Korn/Mortal Kombat krossover, as sickeningly logical as that seems. Knock on wood!

I used to listen to alot of Korn back when I was a stupid teenager, I still listen now and again out of nostalgia but man, that song fucking stinks. Damn.
The song kind of sucks. I really don’t like it at all. I have heard better from them.
Korn are my religion, and this song is the shit!
Synergy Baby. Yet another reason why people in marketing need to die. Hicks was right.
Never liked Korn. The only think i can remember about them is the video clip of the bullet that pierced everything, and i mean EVERYTHING in it’s way. It was totally stupid.
Holy shit . . .
God i hate Korn, but what ever. as long as the game is good i could care less. I still say the NIN song The good Soldier would have been perfect for this game.
UGH………….AND HAZE IS THE SHIT :D!!!
seriously though, how are Korn still producing music?
Korn use to be good. This song sucks like everything else they put out in the last 10 years
Video games have now officially made me cry. Video games combined with music, at least. Crying = Art, so Haze + Korn = Art! We’ve finally solved the debate!! Games are ART!!
one part of me really likes this song the other part of me is telling me to go to hell…
Dude, WTF!?
korn??? at what stage did someone decide “hey man, we need something that will sell our game?”
“ow I know, let get a famous band to write a new song just for out game”
“great idea, who did you Have in mind?”
“korn.”
ok, am i the only one who thinks korn should have nothing to do with this game. I think i said before but i will say it again. I dont want to play a Sci-Fi FPS where i am shootin’ at some bad guys and i have some lame ass Metal in the background. Couldnt they have just goten an orchestral sound track? thats all i want, ok i apreciate how they are trying something new or different but Korn??
anyway, i guess i will just mute the game when the Korn song comes on.
Video games for me are a religion and HAZE is horrible!. On that other site, that was one of the best episodes ever. Yea, this song pretty much sucks. And this game just looks like Ubisofts attempt at its own Halo. lol
Wow, Korn is shit alright.
I’m with you Endogene. I sorta don’t know what to think of it tho…….is it gonna be in the game? Cause I guess it would be okay for listening to when your shooting people in the face….
Holy hell…
I’m pretty damn sure I just crapped myself - in a big way
ROCK ON. Not.
not to my liking, Korn was good back in the day (first two or three albums), but their stuff today is just.. well…horrible, and sad to say this song doesn’t change that.
Megadeth - Gears of War > Korn - Haze
/shrugs
I guess… but God, that (anti-) guitar solo in the middle is pretty horrible.
Remember when Nine Inch Nails got involved with Quake and there was a nailgun in it and the NiN logo on the ammo and we all thought it was awesome?
Yeah.
This is the natural evolution of that as games get more corporate and the people with the cool ideas and good taste have less and less say in the process. “An over the hill band with name recognition wants to synergize with our latest SKU? Do you know how AWESOME this is going to look in our prospectus?”
If you need a modern example to the NiN/Quake thing, Johnathan Coulton writing a track for Portal. See those are talented people at Valve picking a musician who is both in his prime and appropriate for the subject matter.
OO WA AA AAA AAA AAA!!!!
Man
KoRn used to be so awesome
Ok, I like Korn quite a bit, but holy hell that single blows.
Scoop - Come on get up get down with the Korn-ness?
I can never digest Korn. It just passes right through, untouched.
I used to be a pretty big Korn fan, but this song is terrible. I’m pretty sure I could write a better song than this.
korn = idiotic x Grand theft auto sales numbers
GAMING FOR ME IS A RELIGION AND GIANTBOMB IS THIE SH!T
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I never liked a single Nu Metal band. they’re bunch of pushovers.
it should not even categorized as a metal sub-genre. As Metalhead when ever I hear about some nu metal band, I feel insulted…
Nice website, guys. I think you really rocked it!!
Korn and Haze to me is like a religion!!!
Woah, sorry about that. Yeah, that song sucks. But the “custom intro” made me laugh.
Korn making shitty music and charging people for it? A video game publisher doing whatever they can to make a quick buck? Yup, just another day in modern society. The sad thing is that there’s a good a chance that someone somewhere may actually make money off of this.
Actually, there was a time when someone got Adema (third-rate nu metal band featuring Jon Davis’ half-brother) to do a song for Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. So the Korn/MK thing has already come about, in a weird, two-degrees-of-separation kinda way.
They sure have a lot of high hopes for the game!
That is one BAD song…. and no the not in the good way
song sucks IMO.
Oh dear. I wonder if all the Haze soldiers will have wicked dreadlocks like KoЯn …
I love Korn. I’m really a huge fan.
With that being said, this song sucks.
Haze looks alright though, whats so different about this game than any other shooter nowadays?
Hate it or love it, gaming is still a religion for me and Haze is the shit.
Korn was never good and they never will be. Their lyrics are just so stupied. Haze on the other hand looks like it might be decent, I’ll check out a demo or rent it.
LOL That really is one of the worst guitar solo’s I’ve ever heard! There’s a reason why Korn never had guitar solos in their songs before. Maybe some of you guys never managed to get that far through the song? I used to love Fieldy’s weird clickity clackity bass sound back in the day, now I can’t understand how I could ever stomach it, it’s so annoying! It’s weird to think how big this band once were, I’ve not listened to them in years, but I’m sure the first couple of albums were alright? Maybe I just had no taste when I was 15?
I really did like korn back in the day. But korn is not korn any more. They just suck now. Sorry, thats just how I feel.
Religion for me is a religion and the pope is the shits. I had to come up with that kind of prayer to hit up that kind of rush I get from the bible and I think we really crucified it.
lols,
Yeah Korn was the band I used to listen to in middle school and not so much in High school anymore. Now being in college, I have no regrets in saying I used to be a Korn fan. I’m sure if I where to give thier new cd a try I would like something out of it, but i think that would just be for nostalgia reasons. Maybe just something about the band sining the same damn thing for over ten years and me actually having grown up over the past ten years, I just don’t feel as strongly about their songs anymore.
Wait… Not even girls wear skirts any more.
I’m a Konr fan, but this isn’t particularly good. If any band can do soundtracks, it would be Nine Inch Nails. Anyone remember the riffs for Quake 2?
korn, sorry for the mispell
Ugh. Korn? They used to be semi-good. Then they went downhill extremely fast. It’s like the Deftones and AFI. First album, awesome. After that? Pure crap that got worse and worse.
If Ubisoft wanted some cred with metalheads, Slayer would have been a much better choice. Digging up an old Curl Up And Die track would have been even better. Or Dragonforce. Or… hell, Sarah McLachlan or anything would have been a better choice than Korn. Nu Metal sucks and everyone knows it. Except Korn and Ubisoft apparently.
i think the only good game soundtrack is “blow me away” for Halo 2, this song just sucks.
I would have liked to sat in the meeting where they all agreed on some person saying, “Hey, you know what would be cool? If we can get Korn to create a song for the game!”
Korn…ugh!
Bad ass, Korn owns and this AAA from Free Radical has me more excited then gears of war.
