Metal Gear Online Patches Now Available

In case you’re waiting for the Metal Gear Online beta to begin (it’s supposed to start sometime tomorrow), you might want to connect up and start downloading the 1.01 and 1.02 patches that are now available. Maybe you’ll have better luck with the download speeds than I have… I’m a couple of hours in on the 1.01 patch and I’m only at 35 percent completion.

Maybe the direct download is a faster option?

The first patch which I assume your downloading, takes a HELL of a long time to download.

HTTP is not better, stick with the BT.

The second patch though is extremely generous. Took 2 minutes to download and install.

I found that incredibly trippy, that i was downloading the 1.02 patch while watching this video and hearing the eerie music overlapping. waiting.. still waiting.. but 1.02 is much faster, MUCH. Thank god. Will we be playing tomorrow?

Last week p2p was definetly better, but 2 hours ago for 1.02 the direct link only took a few minutes.

Either 1.02 is much smaller, 1.01 is 870 odd mb, or it’s faster now everyone has given up and gone off to cry.

Any of us get to play with the Bomb?

This whole process is ridiculous and unnecessary. There is no good reason for bypassing the PlayStation Network’s universal ID and updating system in favor of Konami’s convoluted, broken alternatives.

Going through all of this has significantly lowered my interest in Metal Gear Online.

It wouldn’t be so bad if Konami’s redundant IDs and download system were good, but it still wouldn’t be good.

for anyone who has yet to get in it,or is still in dl’ing phase, here’s a quick sight into what i’ve seen in it so far-There’s is a decent little training place, that puts you alone not in a server, and lets you go through all the actions and what not, nothing special but its cool it sthere for starting out I guess.-a system similar to call of duty with “perks” you choose up to 4(i believe?) or 5 different skills, and it seems like these can level up individually, they all say (lv1) by them atm, some pretty cool looking stuff, movement seems fine.Keep in mind this isn’t a run and gun game, and you can tell that as soon as you start moving.Have yet to get into a server and play yet but it seems at least interesting so far, very easy controls too.

yeah for the most part everyone should of expected, you aren’t going to play Metal Gear for a multiplayer game, its not bad or anything and can be at least entertaining and kinda fun,but it isn’t going to pull you away from your cod4.If nothing else its a good way to check out the controls and just get a feel for how some things should feel in te SP game, the controls are much much more easily accessable then past metal gears where you had to hold like 5 buttons together just to aim in first person and move around, its still worth your time to check out though by far, just not the best thing.

Ok, Online beta - the jewel in the crown of why companies need to learn how to do business in a more dynamic fashion.

You do the download - every bugger wants it, so that keels over somewhere around the mid point. Eventually leave it going overnight. I install that and excitely boot it up - trailer looks good. I’m all like ‘Yes! How cool is the future of video games?’. Not cool. Click the button v1.01. Why release an update WITHIN 24hrs of releasing the original download? Surely that’s like e-mailing someone, then e-mailing back two minutes later going “oh, here’s that spreadsheet I meant to attach last time - my bad”.

Attempt to start update, while it attempts to reconfigure my router for p2p, it actually just kills it outright.

Reset the router, reset the ps3. Have another go the next day. set it going at 6:30-7pm. Head up to bed at around 11:30, it’s still at something like 35%. Leave the ps3 on overnight again.

Get the patch, try to log on. Konami Id - I’ve heard your rants and beleive you me it makes my tits bleed also. Konami, apparently hadn’t reallised that if you release a ‘first for the console’ metal gear title simultaneously worldwide, your website is going to get a few hits.

2 day’s later, manage to get a Friend Id or Game Code or whatever out of the godawful system they’ve put in place on the site (be careful which country you say you live in, because if it’s wrong YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE IT AND YOUR GAME MAY NOT WORK ON LINE! - what way is that to welcome your new customer in the door? “Welcome Mr. Jones to the Temple of Doom. Mind your step.”

Anyway, I jumped through all those hoops like the sucker I am, so I boot the game again. Can’t access Server. Try later, same. Try the next day, and it’s been taken down. Except over here the way they worded it was that due to ‘unexpected global demand’ Europe only was being taken out of the beta trial to ease the load on the servers - nice, way to go guys.

As it happens it got killed everywhere didn’t it?

Heard it got back up and running so booted it again (some people I know just deleted the demo after the initial debacle - genuinses).

Haven’t even bothered trying with 1.02 (discounting an attempt to set it away after a stupid late night on CoD4 friday, when it’s excuse was that the servers go down for maintenance 3am-5am).

I have lost not only any will to actively pursue playing this game, but a little of my lust for life. I’ll be mostly the same, but the small thigs will slip. I’ll miss my train. Not wear a tie. Let those doors swing closed.

    Thanks a bunch Konami.

The first one went terrible for me. Like I went to play it like Friday night or something and the freaking thing took more than like 15 minutes to download so I just went to bed… so I can really not tell you how long it took. The 2nd patch only took like 2-3 minutes though, so was not so bad. But still, its pretty damn crappy in terms to making this a cohesive experience!

As for string cheese, not a big fan.

I left my PS3 on all night, waking up periodically to check on it, downloading the first patch. What a mess that one is. The second was fine. I’m finally happy to be playing the game. The best way to download the first patch is move the port one or to numbers up and download P2P. Its going to take awhile so don’t expect it to move much until a few hours later.

I’ve literally spent more time downloading patches than actually playing this game. It seems like every time I try to play it, there’s an update of some kind. I’m losing interest pretty quick.
