38 Studios is a videogame production company based out of Maynard, Massachusetts. The production house was created in 2006 by Curt Schilling, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and they currently have no announced products.
Their first title is codenamed "Copernicus" and is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game of an unspecified genre. Judging by the released concept art, it's safe to assume that it will be set in a fantasy world. What little details are available, however, detail that Spawn creator Todd McFarlane will be working as executive art director. Other information states that prolific fantasy and sci-fi author R.A. Salvatore is a key component of the products.
The company's motto is “How cool would it be if . . .”
The esteemed Host Master Emeritus Rich Gallup works for them.
In late May 2009, Curt Schilling's 38 Studios acquired Big Huge Games. 38 Studios' CEO and President Brett Close had this to say about the acquisition, "The acquisition enables us to develop and deliver top-quality games in multiple genres that are based in a shared world, ultimately maximizing the value of our Copernicus MMOG and the intellectual property as a whole."
Friend of Giantbomb and former roommate of Rich Gallup, Ben Coello was also hired by 38 Studios and is likely contributing some amazing art to whatever "Copernicus" turns out to be. Early speculation indicates it may well be a Ms. Pac-Man baseball-themed Spawn MMO, though this cannot be confirmed at this time.
