Completed it about 10-15 minutes ago, this is undoubtedly the best indie game I've ever played, the best free, browser based game I've ever played and the best game released yet this year. Sure, we're only 15 days in but don't let that turn you off, this game has so much heart and soul put into it it's unbelievable. If you grew up with the Nintendo Entertainment System and the games on it, or just really like playing indie games, you should be checking this out immediately. I would advise playing it on Newgrounds, because if you have a sign in, you can keep track of the medals you've won on the game through the same page. Incredible game, really is.
It's a mash-up of other games that has nothing unique to bring to the table-- there is literally zero soul in this.
It's fun, but you're going a little nuts. There's also about a billion of these nostalgia games.
While I wouldn't say it was the best indie game I've ever played, or that it was incredibly unique or original, I will say I had more fun playing this tiny, unoriginal throwback indie game than every indie game I played last year, and that includes: Frozen Synapse, Bastion, To the Moon, Binding of Isaac and Atom Zombie Smasher.
So what if it has no "soul" in it, or if it's not unique. Indie games don't have to be a art history major designed, high concept, watershed moment in gaming in order to be effective. Abobo's Big Adventure is a success because it is not only nostalgic, put pretty damn clever and fun. If you think it needs to be unique in order to be better than something else just because it's an indie title, get off your fucking faux-art critic chair, man.
