    Overview

Acclaim Games was a publisher of free-to-play online games that was founded in 2006 by former Activision CEO Howard Marks and partner Neil Malhotra. Marks purchased the Acclaim name and logo when both were put up for sale following the bankruptcy and subsequent liquidation of Acclaim Entertainment in 2004.

Acclaim Games released a number of successful titles including BOTS!!, 9 Dragons, 2Moons and Dance Online. The company's userbase grew to more than fifteen million before the company was acquired by Playdom on May 19, 2010. However, on August 27, 2010, Playdom shutdown the Acclaim studio only three months after its acquisition. The following month, The Walt Disney Company subsequently purchased Playdom. Disney is the current owner of both the Acclaim name and all remaining Acclaim Games assets.
