After strange recon activities and an unprovoked attack on a routine training flight, Osea is plunged back into war with their once peaceful neighbor and ally, Yuktobania.
Released in October 2004 exclusively for PlayStation 2, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is the fifth game in the series. The player takes the role of Blaze, a trainee pilot in the Osean Air Defence Force who is bumped up into active service with the Wardog squadron. The Wardog squadron is based on Sand Island and is furthest western point of Osean territory. The squad consists of Alvin H. Davenport (Chopper), Kei Nagase (Edge) and flight lead Jack Bartlett (HRTBRK1). Osea is subjected to mysterious recon activities, believed to be the work of the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, another superpower of equal military might to Osea. Tension rises between the two nations and Yuktobania soon declares war on the Osean Federation.
