Are you an Achievement Whore?

#1 Posted by MisterShak (40 posts) -

Personally I'm not. I play games and if i happen to earn a few achievements along the way its all good. Only once in a while do I go out of my way to specifically get a certain achievement but NEVER if it requires some sort of repetitive behaviour on my part (ex. the Assassin's Creed achievements requiring you to do all the research for the assasination)

I used to be. My gamerscore is 23k. Last summer I gained 20,000 gamerpoints in two months. Then I stopped.

Yes I am

Holy crap! haha

I am somewhat but I am not too obsessed.
#5 Posted by Psynapse (1084 posts) -

Kind of i guess... I played CSI for 1000 gamer points in about 6-8 hours of play and i hated the game... But ive finished Halo 3, COD4, Gears of War etc and i havn't got all the acheivements... like 500+ for each though...

#6 Posted by JoelTGM (5783 posts) -

Well, I try to get as many achievements as I can in a game, but I am very picky about what games I buy so I don't have that many points.

#7 Posted by KiLL3r (105 posts) -

Honestly, I'm starting to care more about my gamerscore then ever before. At first I thought the Achievements were rubbish, but once I hit 10,000 Last summer that all changed. I'm sitting at 21K at the moment.

#8 Posted by LightYagami245 (1161 posts) -

No, I'm not. I don't mind getting them, but I won't just get a game just to get achievements.

Yah, I know.

Now I'd rather be hanging out with friends, or here, I guess.
#10 Posted by RedSox8933 (2501 posts) -

nah, i don't give a crap about my gamerscore, i just love playing games. the only games that i made it my duty to get all the achievements were BioShock and GTA IV

#11 Posted by Strife88 (246 posts) -

I'll only play certain games, I hardly rent anything so I just have points from the games that I own.

#12 Posted by Green_Incarnate (1789 posts) -

I like getting achievements, but I don't go for the ridiculous ones or others that require an ungodly amount of collecting. I still go for as many as I can.

#13 Posted by Sentry (4198 posts) -

Well I am becoming a trophy whore, I would totally be an achievement whore but its too late to start it again lol.

Just imagine achievements just came out, and games are slowly starting to support it. So you have time to basically get every game with them, and unlock em all. Meaning you can basically have all the achievements our there much easier. Its like heaven!

#14 Posted by LiquidPrince (16517 posts) -

Not really.

#15 Posted by Oriental_Jams (3072 posts) -

No, I honestly can't see the point.

#16 Posted by Shocker (2324 posts) -

No, I don't worry about it at all.

#17 Posted by zmf (50 posts) -

If I was to say no that would be a blatent lie as I do try to get achievements but I wont go out of my way to get achievements (For example the car ordering achievement on GTA IV which seems as long as the main storyline). Where as a game such as Civilization Revolution (The only game I have every single achievement) the game seemed to have an achievement for what is expected to be done over time although I did complete it pretty quickly I was glad to see there were no silly achievements just straight to the point win as this civilization, win on this difficulty, etc.

Short answer, No.

Long answer, Yes.

#18 Posted by mjwickstrom1 (215 posts) -

No, I've just played a lot of games.

#19 Posted by HitNRun (341 posts) -

Absolutely. If you don't want/can't afford/are still waiting for some new games besides the ones you already have, the Gamerscore adds a goal element to finished games, making replaying games more than just dithering around the fun levels.

#20 Posted by Shigginator (145 posts) -

No. I'd like to see my gamerscore go up, but I don't really go too out of my way to get some achievements. Things like harder difficulties, and defeating a storyline boss are what I usually get :P

#21 Posted by zmf (50 posts) -

I pity people that actually buy xbox live accounts purely for having a high gamerscore.

#22 Posted by MsCortana (445 posts) -

No, I am not.  Although, I do go out of my way to get them, but not so far as to find 9,999,999 flags, orbs or whatever it may be. :P

#23 Posted by Thunder (401 posts) -

not really i mean i go after them in games but i dont go out of my way to get my gamerscore up

lol i played that game too, its got the worst voice acting ever, and yes i am an achievement whore i forced my self to play king just for for the 1000gs

#25 Posted by TheGTAvaccine (2916 posts) -

Nope.

#26 Edited by DorianBlack (320 posts) -

I was for a short time when I first got my Xbox because I though it was neat then stopped for a while and then started to become one again when 20k was in arms reach. I'm always interested in the achievements when I play games though because they are really fun and show I played the game to completion. I wouldn't play like a Disney movie game or something to get easy achievements though, thats silly.

#27 Posted by MisterShak (40 posts) -

Don't you hate it when a game has online achievements but is either too damn old for you to find someone to play with online or you just don't have a gold membership at all? Frankly, that really pisses me off. Thankfully COD4 did not include any online achievements.

#28 Posted by Blu_Magic (2026 posts) -

Nope. If I was I'd have a gamerscore of over 10k already.

#29 Posted by Vinchenzo (6466 posts) -

Yup.

This has happened to me with a few games and it is quite irritating.  Furthermore, the online achievements get a bit asinine if you ask me....i.e. kill X amount of players with weapon A and so on and so forth....

And then there are fair games, somewhat like SC IV. It has a single ranked one to win a couple times in a row, but other than that, you can get the rest by playing with your friends and just enjoying the game. When achievements say "in Ranked" it just forces boosters to clog up the system. Sure it's harder to boost but it ruins the online community.
#32 Posted by PaperPlain (253 posts) -

Not at all. I play games for fun, and although it may be fun to some I really don't care about Achievemnets.

#33 Posted by Shadow (5110 posts) -

I have all but one achievement in Yaris....you tell me.

#34 Posted by Sentry (4198 posts) -

Wow, people who rent shitty games to get achievements are sad...

#35 Posted by Bennyishere (1746 posts) -

I sure am. Not to the level where I'm going to buy Avatar, but I used a guide to get everything in Assassin's Creed....

Stfu you ignorant piece of shit. Seriously, I'm tired of hearing pricks like you. It doesn't affect you, what's the big deal. You aren't forced to get achievements."
Woah, dude, calm down. I agree with you (on the "doesn't affect you" part anyway), but you could go about expressing your opinion in a less verbally-abusive manner.

I've just heard enough of this achievement crap, and this ice cream isn't as good as it should be. Two conflicts collide.

LMFAO!!! DUDE this guy is fucking INSANE!? "Stfu you ignorant piece of shit."? If only there was a report button....

All I said was people rent shitty games (ie CSI etc) just to get achievements, even though you hate the game? Is that NOT said? You need to go to a hospital asap or something, either that or your on some heavy duty drugs.

Does anyone find this so insanely odd or is just me.

#42 Posted by WINDWAKER1 (56 posts) -

#43 Posted by BlindEffekt (920 posts) -

I was an achievement whore until I reached 10,000; I stopped caring after that. Went and rented King Kong, played it for 30 minutes, looked at myself and turned it off. Just couldn't suck from the achievement teat anymore.

#50 Posted by MrMiyagi (947 posts) -

I was until I got 10k. That's all I wanted.
