hardest of the ally achievements to get.
PhatSeeJayon May 17, 2009 at 9:01 a.m.
Not really... you just have to get to the dig site the first thing you do after leaving the Citadel and you're set.

And since you get all of the other party members at the Citadel, that makes this one the hardest - especially on Insanity difficulty (trust me on this one).

naw..just try to avoid talking to people before going to the digsite... Just follow tha main storyline then when you get the option to get Liara go get her...
Just be careful to do as many citadel quests as you can between each time you go to one of the "main storyline-planets". "The fan" (Conrad Verner was it?) for example can be missed if not talked to between each travel in space. The achievements seems buggy though,, use a guide to be on the safe side is my tip.

i avoided all unnecessary encounters in the citadel, went to the dig site, came back with liara to do the citadel quests, and blamo!  the few, the proud, the what the hell?  there is no joy in this achievement, except to stare at the blue babe, which gets old after a while

If you get the DLC you can get it earlier, making the achievement quite easy.
yevinorionon May 21, 2009 at 10:28 a.m.
Yeah by avoiding all Citadel side quests and just doing what's necessary to get back on the ship, I went and got her and managed to get the achievement by the time I hit Ilos.

I don't remember trying all that hard to get this.  Think I did it on my 5th, or 6th run through.  I didn't purposefully ignore quests till I got her, I just made sure to do her mission before the other planets.

I just went to the Dig Site, got Liara, then came back to the Citadel and played the game like Normal....and Unlocked Her after doing Noveria, Feros and a Bunch of Sidequests...well nearly all the sidequests I could find at the time...

It's not so hard ;p
Go to citadel, go tower -> go flux -> Garrus -> Wrex (as you want) -> kill fist -> save Tali -> go tower -> go Normandy -> go save Liara
Don't take any quest before (taking quest is counting too (not only finnishing) IMO becasue I didnt get this achiv 1st time -.- takieng a lot of quests then go Liara, the finnish all with Liara and Tali. Only Quarian Ally made. Next time I did as i wrote, and Asari Ally made in Virmir (or ealier) with not all quests and missions before).

Having just got this achievement its really not hard at all. Although the advice above is helpful about rushing to get Liara before accepting any other quests you can still easily get it without being completely fixated on it.

Just to show this I got the achievement before going to Vermiere, just after completing the three intial main storyline quests you are given upon getting the Normandy for the first time.

The only thing stopping you is probably not doing enough quests, but I guess the same applies for all party members, theres more than enough sidequests to achieve this, even moreso now that theres two batch's of DLC.

Easy piecy,
Wofflson Dec. 15, 2009 at 11:37 a.m.
man, fuck this achievement, seriously. This isn't even close to my first attempt at getting it, and after 17 missions and 53 assignments with Liara, I STILL don't get it. I've bought Bring Down the Sky to see if that helps. If not, I'm making an appeal to Bioware to be awesome and just unlock it for me :(

edit
Bring Down the Sky made enough of a difference. Still ridiculous ¬_¬

Does anyone know if the ally achievement progress carries over to different playthroughs?

The first time I went through Mass Effect, I used Wrex and Garrus through the first half of the game, then switched out Garrus for Tali. Now I've begun my third playthrough, on insanity (same career) and have yet to get the Quarian, Turian and Asari Ally achievements, so I'm wondering if its even possible to get those three on this playthrough.

@genkobar: its usually only possible to get one of these at a time but i know with the bringing down the sky dlc, u can get 2 if u go thru the game, dlc and a shit load of side missions
genkobaron Jan. 25, 2010 at 1:56 p.m.
Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try that. I have BDTS and I just bought Pinnacle Station, so maybe... just maybe :P
Kaddionon Feb. 1, 2010 at 12:25 p.m.
@genkobar:  You don't have to do a ton of sidequests if you have both DLC packs. Doing both counts towards 50% of the 75% needed. So just continue on with the story planets and you should get it fine.

I'm surprised this is still a hard one to get for some people.

I got the turian and krogan ally achievement on my first playthrough, probably only one or two side-quests apart without any DLC.
I don't understand why more people don't have this (i'm currently working on it) Liara is the best support character to have, especially if her biotics are maxed out. everytime  i'm in combat she whips up a singularity and i only have to blast the flailing fools - all too easy.

Agreed on that, she's awesome, I rarely switched her out after I got her. I was playing as a vanguard on normal, and didn't think anything of it. Didn't miss anything either, I'm really OCD about doing everything there is in a location before moving on in games like this. I went to her planet first to get her yes, but I only played through the game once and got the cheevos for her and Tali.

"I'm Commander Shepard, and these are my favorite space bitches on the Citadel."

Very easy cheevo.
