The famous port city of Acre has been a critical strategic location in many conflicts throughout history. It is an ancient city founded along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea in what is now Israel. Having changed factional hands many times, it is known primarily for its significant role in the Crusades of the 12th and 13th Centuries, where it was the scene of many battles, sieges, and retreats. For this reason, it has been the setting of multiple games set in the time period, most recently Assassin's Creed.
