Act Of War : High Treason is developed by not so popular developers, Eugen Systems and published by Atari Inc. Even thought High Treason was an expansion pack, the nort hamerican version of the game is concidered to be a sequel and does not need the original game, Act of War : Direct Action to play High Treason. The patch released for this game comes with a map editor and modding tool. The map editor will let you to edit the maps of Direct Action and make them compatible with High Treason on the other hand the modding tool lets you create your own units, buildings etc.
Story
Act Of War : High Treason actually continues the story of Direct Action. To be precise the game takes place 3 years after the events in Direct Action. It is recommended to play Direct Action before you have a look at High Treason in order to have continuity in the story. The story takes off with the assassination of the US President, killed by a bomb blast on his way out of the White House. This happens on the same day of the US Presidential elections the two candidates are also attacked, one of whom is the Vice President of US. However the vice pres surivies the attack and becomes the next President. As a result of this incident several government officials are arrested and charged guilty of high treason. As the game proceeds the masterminds behind the attacks are revealed.

In High Treason there exists four playable factions.
- United States Army - This includes the army, navy, air force and marines of the United States. They are known for their strength and the ability to indulge in intense battle. This faction remains the same as in DIrect Action.
- Task Force Talon - Abbreviated as TFT, it is most flexible of all the factions. They are equipped with futuristic weapons and loaded with the latest technology.
- Consortium - This faction is a very large terrorist organization and equpped with very powerful military weapons and are also loaded with advanced technology that has the same caliber as the techologies used by the TFT.
- Mercenaries - This is actually not a faction but an innovative concept intriduces by Eugene Systems that will let the players hire Mercinaries at any of the player built Mercenary Outpost. In order to recieve a Mercenary Unit the player will have a specific amount to be paid as the initial fee ( which is refunded) and a smaller amount will be charged at very short intrevals. The fee paid initially will be fully or partially refunded depending on the number of mercenaries alive.
