Bethesda Concept Artist Adam Adamowicz Passes Away

Posted by patrickklepek (1627 posts) - 1 year, 3 months ago

If you enjoyed the look of Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as much as I did, we have, in large part, Bethesda Game Studios concept artist Adam Adamowicz to thank.

Unfortunately, he’s no longer with us.

Adamowicz reportedly passed away earlier this week, the tragic result of a battle with cancer. He was 42.

There’s an informative and touching eulogy by a fellow concept artist at Awesome Robo, which includes plenty of Adamowicz’s art.

Such a shame. At least a part of him has become immortalized in the work he did on such important games.

I was never aware of this guy's existence, but his art has made an impression on me. And now I am sad. Life is weird.

Didn't know much about him until recently. Though it's still really depressing. I recently lost an uncle to cancer after taking care of him for about a year. So, I guess I'll also echo this sentiment: @DoctorLazy said:

He didn't die. He just left for a new job. Jesus and God and Hercules all wanted him to come and design their new places.

Sad news. The visual design in Fallout 3 is certainly one of its highlights.

Thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Rest in peace.

Yeah, this is a big bummer. Todd Howard and co. had a really nice tribute to him while accepting an award for Skyrim at the DICE awards last night.

My condolences to his friends and family. It's always sobering when the realities of life impact the talent behind some of the games we love.

My mood is now as dull as the environments he designed. Rest in peace.

R.I.P. Guy was obviously a talent, but much more importantly, it is extremely sad to see someone still young pass away in the industry

So sad. Its always the good people that receive ill fortune it seems...

#35 Posted by Funkofages (48 posts) - 1 year, 3 months ago

Terrible news. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It's one of those people whos work you thoroughly enjoy, but don't know it until something like this happens.

1. Thank you Adam for making my life more enjoyable and interesting.

2. RIP

3. Fuck Cancer

I have the Collector's Edition of Fallout 3 and the art that is shown is fantastic.

#40 Posted by StudioErebus (26 posts) - 1 year, 3 months ago

I'm that person that will buy a collectors edition for the art book (I've never played Bioshock 2, but I bought that CE because of the magnificent art book included) and I have to say, as a lover of game art and an artist myself, the art book included in the Fallout 3 Lunchbox made that whole package worthwhile. This is a sad day, the industry has lost a unique and creative powerhouse.

Very sad. What a wonderful artist he was. A shame to think about what else he hadn't yet had the chance to do.

Pretty much this. I lost a grandfather to cancer, someone from my high school recently died of cancer, this guy...

There was a girl, somewhere, who found something new in the way of curing cancer but I doubt it would really make any headway. It would cut too much into the profits of the men who make so much off of cancer treatments every day.

That is incredibly sad... No decent human being should die that young.

Never thought I'd visit GiantBomb to become saddened.

My thoughts go out to his family, friends, and Bethesda.
