Advance Wars Dual Strike made me angry!

I was really getting into Advance Wars Dual Strike.  Almost every spare moment seemed to be consumed by playing it and when not playing it, thinking about how I would win the the next battle.
However, today I lost my normal laid back, cool demeanour.  I very nearly destroyed my DS in anger.  I had beaten the game on normal and was working through the campaign in hard.  I should have paid attention to the word hard.  Now, I admit to not being the best gamer on strategy games, but I am far from the worst.

Anyway, it is map 18 (i think) and it is a fog of war battle.  Several attempts to win ended in cataclysmic failure when the enemy had 2 turns and wiped me out.  I decided to go ultra defensive and wear the opponenet down slowly.  Even if I got a C ranking, I didn't care.  A win is a win.  With my armies slowly being destroyed by a never ending supply of bombers, missiles and helicopters, I eventually had nothing left to actually fight flying enemy.

My problem was that I didn't realise that the enemy had captured the only air base and was just producing them every turn.  Well, I carried on like a mad man.  I cursed, I yelled, I exclaimed with the next bomber and I through my DS in anger.  Fortunately I am not a mad man as I through it on the cushions of the couch.  Like a petulant child, I told my kids that the game was just stupid, as it was impossible to win, turned the game off in a huff, took out the cartridge, put it in the case an vowed not to bother again.

I then looked for something to calm me down, so I put in Final Fantasy Chocobo Tales.  They are so cute and they had a calmative effect on me.

So, point?  I am a tool.

Has anyone with Advance Wars DS actually made it a long way into the hard campaign and actually know if it is possible to beat it?  This is about as hardcore as a game gets as far as I am concerned.

Yes I have played Advance Wars, I used to own the same one, and it can be a very hard game and I have gotten angry over it many times also hehe.
So I just quit for awhile and go back to it, or if I`m real stuck I find a walkthrough even though I don`t usually like using them.

Advance Wars is awesome, I can beat all my friends at it but I suck at the campaign.
I feel your pain.

You got that right.  I really think it defines hardcore.  No-one without grit and deternmination would persist.  Actually I use grit a lot, I like his long range hits  *groan*, sorry for the lame ass joke there.
12 hours later and I can't get it out of my system.  I am thinking of trying again and seeing if it is possible to get the airbase first.  It will probably just make me angrier.

Boy, am I glad to have that phase behind me. Dual Strike on "Normal" is difficult enough as it is. "Hard" is just.. hard. As in hard.

I like how they redesigned the missions so that "Hard" is almost an entirely new game, though.

I didn't even realise there was a hard campaign.  I left the game sitting for a good couple of years partially finished.  It was a surprise to me when I saw the addition.  I just assumed the AI would be nore aggressive, but the enemy has SO many more troops.  On one map, I literally spent 45 minutes studying the map working out my plan (that is sad really).  I attempted the battle 5 times before I got it right, but it still took a couple of hours to win.

The map that angers my blood so much is just nuts though.  The enemy gets to use their CO powers really quickly and just decimate you with 2 turns in a row.  Hiding in the bushes does nothing as they have so many troops, they land one next to you and then destroy you with everything else.  You only have the troops you start with unless you can capture the air base, but it is a long way from you with all the troops in between.

Damn my Aspergers.  I am now obsessing.  I can't play anything else as I still haven't got it out of system :(

Well, it kept eating at me.  I couldn't get it out of my head and I was damn determined that a game would not get the better of me.  I have been back - many times.  In fact, I couldn't relax with another game.  Sure I tried Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSP, but nope, Advance Wars was eating at me.
SO today, many attempts later - I FINALLY beat chapter 18 in HARD.  Sure, I lost all of my foot soldiers and couldn't capture anything (except I did capture the airbase first).  Sure, I lost all of my units that would reload my attack units, meaning that I had to send them way back when low of supplies.  Sure, one of my two teams was down to a single tank.

BUT I BEAT IT.

I destroyed the last unit and more surprising, I still managed a B ranking which was a huge shock.

Now, do I continue the pain and go on to chapter 19?  Hell, who am I kidding.  Of course I will.  Time to bash my head against that brick wall and THEN stick it in the lion's mouth.  How can so much torture still be so much fun?
