Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties is the second of two expansion packs released for the acclaimed real time strategy game, Age of Empires III. This expansion pack requires Age of Empires III in order to play but does not require the first expansion pack, Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs, to work. This expansion pack was generally well received by critics. It was mostly praised for it's tweaks to the graphics and the new, unique Asian Civilizations.
Bonus: Starts with 2 elephant-mounted monks instead of explorers, Villagers cost wood instead of food and arrive for no cost with home city shipments
Unique Units: Gurkha, Howdah, Siege Elephant, Sowar, Raiput, Zamburak, Sepoy, Mahout Lancer
Bonus: Starts with 2 Ikki-Ikko monk units instead of explorers, Daimyo units train and enhance troops and acts as a home, Shrines produce a trickle of resources.
Unique Units: Yabusame, Samurai, Yumi, Daimyo, Morutaru, Naginata Rider, Ashigaru, Flaming Arrow

The campaigns featured in the new expansion pack are all based around the three new civilizations. This expansion pack welcomed back the return of the historical campaign. The campaign is based on true historical events instead of a story based narrative style story.
Indian Campaign: The Indian campaign centers around the Indian struggle for independence against the British. It mostly centers around the sepoy rebellion which occurred in the 19th century.
Japanese Campaign: The Japanese campaign focuses on the reunification of Japan and the struggles for power occurring in the country at this time.
Chinese Campaign: The Chinese campaign is based on the expedition of a Chinese treasure ship in America before Colombus.
Many veteran players of the Age of Empires series lamented at the fact that wonders were missing from Age of Empires 3. The Asian Dynasties put wonders into place again but only for the three new asian civilizations. Rather then picking an explorer to advance in age, the three asian civilizations build a wonder each with their own unique pay offs.
These wonders are:
Four new game modes were added into the game. Three are brand new to the series and one is an old fan favorite. The new modes include;
Regicide: An old fan favorite and a staple in Age of Empires II. The goal is simply to kill the other players king. Your must defend your king as well.
King of the Hill: A staple these days, the goal is to capture a fort and hold it for a certain amount of time.
Treaty: The player can put a treaty in place so no one can attack until a certain time into the game. You can also block the other teams ports
Treaty with No Blockade: Same thing as above but with no blockades allowed.

New Civilizations
The new civilizations found in the game are all large powers in Asia. Each one has unique abilities and units. The new civilizations are as follows:India

Japan's feudal era was ruled by the Bushi-the aristocratic warrior classes that controlled even the emperor.Bonus: Starts with 2 Ikki-Ikko monk units instead of explorers, Daimyo units train and enhance troops and acts as a home, Shrines produce a trickle of resources.

China
- Porcelain Tower
- Power: It generates a trickle of whatever the player chooses: food, wood, coin, experience points, or export points.
- Confucian Academy
- Power: Spawns a flying crow on a regular basis.
- Summer Palace
- Power: Spawns a banner army of whatever the player chooses, however, it is slower than training banner armies in the War Academy
- Temple of Heaven
- Power: Heals all your units on the map once. Plus, gives your monk the ability to heal units.
- White Pagoda
- Power: Increases attack and hitpoints of your monk and disciples. It also raises the amount of disciples your monk can train.
India
- Taj Mahal
- Power: Enables a player to use a Cease-fire ability.
- Karni Mata
- Power: Provides a gathering bonus to nearby villagers.
- Agra Fort
- Power: Strong Fortress, but weaker than a European Fort.
- Tower of Victory
- Power: "Inspiration". For a short period of time your military units' attacks, speed, and hit-points increase.
- Charminar Gate
- Power: Enables the training of an improved "mansabdar" versions of normal units.
Japan
- Toshogu Shrine
- Power: A large Shrine and increases Shrines' income.
- Ships Trade.
- Giant Buddha
- Power: Informers - reveals enemies for a short time.
- Ships Naginata Riders.
- Golden Pavilion
- Power: Choose a bonus to military units. Contains Advanced Arsenal techs.
- Ships Yumi Archers.
- The Shogunate
- Power: Military units train faster and cost less.
- Ships Daimyo and Experience.
- Torii Gates
- Power: 1.5x shipment points earned.
- Ships Samurai.
