The first expansion pack released for Age of Empires III. It centers around Native American civilizations and introduces a variety of new multiplayer modes, campaigns, and units.

Overview

Warchiefs offers a number of new features to those that already have Age of Empires III installed such as three new civilizations to play, new buildings, new units, more Home City cards, and several other enhancements.

War Map

A new feature to the game is the new war map which allows you to control your movements with an over map.

Civilizations
The new civilizations include three Native American tribes. Each tribe has its own unique War Chief, who serve as the Native Americans' explorer and also give bonuses to nearby troops as well as make allies of treasure guardians. Interestingly, the Native American tribes don't have home cities (with the exception of the Aztecs, who have Tenochtitlan). They instead have "councils," which are a collection of tribal leaders who each personify a certain aspect of the civilization, in the same way the home city's buildings do.

The Aztecs

A powerful civlization that once was the most respected nation in all of Mesoamerica
Bonus: War Chief bonus doubles experience gained in combat by nearby units.
Unique Units: Skull Knight, Puma Spearman, and Eagle Runner Knights.

The Iroquois

The Iroquois Confederacy had power even before the first Europeans arrived
Bonus: War Chief boosts hitpoints of nearby units.
Unique Units: Forest Prowler, Tomahawks, and Kanya Horsemen.

The Sioux

Famed for breeding horses, the Sioux military strikes fast and hard
Bonus: War Chief bonus doubles experience gained in combat by nearby units.
Unique Units: Wakina Rifle, Axe Rider, and Rifle Rider.

Revolutions

European civilizations now have an option to start a revolution and seperate from your home country to become a seperate nation. The player may choose between starting a revolution and advancing to the imperial age. They cost 1000 food, 1000 wood, and 1000 gold compared to the imperial age's cost of 4000 food and 4000 gold. The revolution also gives you a choice between two historic revolutionary figures such as George Washington and Simon Bolivar. Also players will receive a deck filled with military cards with unlimited replays and will convert all villagers to militia men, stopping their economy. The benefit is that the player simply has soldiers sent to their town center rather then produing them themselves. Also an unlimited number of fort wagons can be sent creating a powerful defense. A revolution is good for a final military push on the enemy. With the revolution comes three new unit types: the Ironclad (combination of frigate and monitor), the Gatling gun (an improve version of the Organ gun) and the Colonial Militia, which is what settlers turn into upon revolution.

Campaigns

Warchiefs continues the trend of fictional campaigns based on real events with the adventure of Nathanial Black during the American Revolution and Clayton Black during the rush out west. Nathan and Clay are both descendents of Morgan Black. Nathan, is John Black's grandson and Clay is Amelia's son.

In the first Campaign, Fire, you join Nathan as he attempts to save his mother, leading him into the Battles of Saratoga and Bunker Hill. He is joined by Kanyenke, his grandfathers old friend and encounters Washington along the way. The player must fight against Hessians and survive the winter at Valley Forge. The game ends after Nathan returns home from the battle of YorkTown.

In the second campaign, Shadow, Clayton Black is expanding the family's railroad line. But first he is confronted by a war started by indian chief red cloud. He returns to the area year's later to find another war started by Miners moving in the black hills region of Dakota. It was started by his former friend Holmes who's greed for gold led him to turn on Nathan. Nathan sides with the Sioux and later helps them defeat General Custer at Little Bighorn.
