Loving the art style. Apparently you can sign up for a beta, but the link isn't working right now.

I was hoping that I'd stumble upon Age of Empires IV; not this. Disappointed. =(

beat me to it.

To be honest about the game, I really am starting to hate free to play games are going for the goofy cartoonish style. My childhood favourite game is now made into some battlefield heroes cutesy travion rts... thing. I do not like watching soldiers with huge torsos and little feet fighting in a war. SO, I'm disappointed.

I don't know what to say about that...

It's at least good to see some of the ex-ensemble people doing something.

Fuck that shit.

@themangalist:  They're not stylized because they're free to play, they're stylized because that lends itself to lower polygon counts and lower resolution textures. Meaning the system requirements won't be ridiculous and more machines will be able to run it.

Anyway, I think this looks pretty neat.

I'm curious to know what the demand for this was. I'd much rather have another entry in the original series.

So Farmville extreme?

Spamming a bunch of dudes could be fun though.

Game went downhill after the second one imo.

YESSSS A NEW AOE GAME!!!! FINALLY!!!11

To all the haters, read the FAQ, it clears out any notions of the game being like farmville. The only people claiming this is like farmville are the assholes over at kotaku.

Still waiting for the Facebook Civilization game myself.... :)

These kind of games are a good way for people to get into gaming though.  First start with Farmville, then work yourself up to this, and then you buy a $60 PC game that your PC can't handle.  Oops.  It seems to me that "casual" games are simply doing well because they run on most PCs.

Will you shut the hell up already please? Stop trolling Giant Bomb that's not what this site is about.

EDIT: I'm excited for this new game (and hope they either remake AoE2 or create AoE4).

So far I'm disappointed. Like someone already said, I'd much rather have AOE4 or AOM2 than this.

No empire has conquered the passage of time. RIP Ensemble Studios.

Persistent MMO RTS? Interesting, but something tells me that the final game will lack substance.

@Soapy86:

Valid point you have there. But i would much prefer a hd treatment of the classic 2d sprite army men. that's what the AoE franchise has always meant to me.

@one_2nd: true. first one still my fave

I like it, though not too crazy about the art style.  But I mean, really, where else could the AoE series go?  They did 3 games, that cover pretty much good parts of history and the gameplay of 2 and 3 still rock today.  Youd be asking for something like what they did with Starcraft but thats not necessary.  The Art of AoE2 and 3 holds up better today than the first starcraft does.  So go back and play those, what could you want from AoE4?  Going into the modern age? Nah, thats not really Age of Empires.  This is good for the series and is more for people that want social strategy but dont want to farm and find a lonely calf.  Though you can still farm in this game.
