When I think of an AI companion, I think of Dog Meat from Fallout 3.

It is actually quite simple, dois it have a preprogrammed behavior? And does it follow you around and help you in some way?

By this logic Navi is a primitive AI companion as is the sphere thing that is the last boss in Halo 3, but generally people don't consider an AI companion a companion unless they help you or affect the environment in some way, like in Ico or RE4.
