After the completion of the soundtrack for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Akira Yamaoka has departed from Konami.
Now the Silent Hill games can really get crappy!
You'll be surely missed at Konami.
This is a common occurrence in the gaming industry for composers to leave their companies and start up new studios. If Yamaoka left Konami on good terms, it's highly likely he'll stick close to them at the start of his new venture and compose for any future Silent Hill games. Same thing happened with Uematsu, Sakimoto, and Mitsuda when they all left Square.
This isn't that surprising. A couple of months ago another brilliant composer, Michiru Yamane, left Konami as well. I hope the two keep composing for their respective series... Castlevania just isn't Castlevania without Yamane's music, and while I haven't played any Silent Hill games, I've heard really good things about Yamaoke.
I'm always a little insulted at how shorthanded some people are to credit the whole of a franchise's success to a single person. Its rather insulting, frankly, and unrealistic. Every person who actually played music in the SH games still works at Konami, as do the people who design the monsters, and any number of other pivotal people. But oh, the person you choose to fully credit the game's quality to is gone so I guess those other people are just worthless now, huh.
" After the completion of the soundtrack for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Akira Yamaoka has departed from Konami. He didn't just do the soundtrack, he actually created all the sound effect with his team. Sound was one of the greatest assets of the games. His replacement has huge shoes to fill.
