Akuma

Character »

Known as Gouki in Japan, Akuma is a major character in the Street Fighter series. His purpose is to defeat the strongest of foes, even if his victory can be murderous.

Concepts

2.5D

Games which feature 3D polygonal graphics, but typically restrict gameplay and camera control to a 2D plane. Alternatively, it can also refer to earlier games that attempted to simulate three-dimensional graphics without the use of 3D polygons.
Axe Kick

A downward kick occasionally combined with a jump. The Pumphrey Brothers favorite kick. It is used to crack open crates.
Character Select Screen

A concept in games with multiple characters, a screen with pictures of all playable characters with the possibility of stat listings.
Characters Without Pupils

Some characters have purely white eyes, some have eyes that radiate light, some have no eye-sockets at all. This is a page for all the occularly impaired.
Combo

Typically found in fighting games, combos are a series of strung-together moves.
CPS

The CP System is a family of arcade system hardware manufactured by Capcom for their arcade games from 1988 to 1999, including the Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III series.
Demon

Demons are generally creatures of evil, usually from Hell, who are often totally untrustworthy even when they're not murdering everyone and destroying everything in their path.
Divekick

A divekick is a gravity-defying move found in many fighting games that allows an airborne fighter to propel themselves downward at their opponent at a high rate of speed.
Double Knock Out

A double K.O. is a rare event when in an 1-on-1 fighting game both fighters reduce each others health to zero simultaneously. The methods used to score a Double K.O. as a round win or loss varies from game to game.
Fire Manipulation

A biological entity with the innate ability to control the behavior and movement of fire. This is often connected with the ability to biologically or magically create fire.
Hadouken

A ball of energy fired from the palms.
Hand to Hand Combat

Hidden Character

Hidden characters appear only when certain conditions are met. Finding them usually requires great skill.
Hurricane Kick

While the original Japanese Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku literally translates to "Tornado Whirlwind Foot"; Hurricane Kick is the commonly accepted name for this Street Fighter move.
Martial Arts

Martial arts are a popular set of skills that many video game characters possess. Martial arts are the cornerstone of any fighting game, and have influenced many platforming and adventure games.
Projectiles

Used in fighting games, projectiles are objects that a fighter can launch at another fighter to attack from a distance. While they can be used to simply inflict damage, projectiles are often used to maneuver opponents into disadvantageous positions.
Satsui no Hadou

Satsui no Hadou, or "Surge of Murderous Intent", is a super-natural martial power in the Street Fighter Series.
Shoryuken

Shoryuken is the move made famous by Ryu and Ken Masters of the Street Fighter franchise. Shoryuken translates to "Rising Dragon Fist" but most English speakers simply refer to it as the "Dragon Punch."
Shoto-clone

Fighting game characters with a significant similarity in fighting style to Street Fighter's Ryu & Ken.
Special Attacks

Featured mainly in fighting games, special attacks usually require more than just pressing a button to activate. They are usually unique or at least varied between characters.
Sprite

A two-dimensional image or animation overlaid into a scene. The foundation of early 2D games, making up everything from props to the player-controlled character.
Super Combo

A special combo-move in fighting games that is executable after building a meter throughout the match (or round).
Super Deformation

An art style prevalent in anime in which a character or other item is rendered in smaller proportions in order to make it small, cute, and cuddly.
Teleportation

The ability to move from one area to another instantaneously - typically through some sort of special power or device.
Ultra Combo

A combo move in the Street Fighter 4 series that is executable after receiving a certain amount of damage in a round.
Villain

The antagonist that places obstacles in the way of the protagonist (or hero).
Voice Acting

Voice Acting is the art of providing voices for characters in games, television shows, films, radio programs, and other forms of media.
