Alan Wake (sequel?) confirmed by Remedy, but it's not Alan Wake 2

Was catching up on Joystiq this morning and Remedy sent them a quick message. No idea what they could mean. Any ideas?

For me the most important part seems to be that he specifically mentions platforms aren't announced yet.

So referring to your most recent Joystiq post ... It's awesome to hear you say that Alan Wake appears in your hearts – I've read through all the responses on your site which is fueled with positive responses. It really would seem Alan Wake is very close to the hearts of the fans out there, and to ours too. To that point, it's a shame that this news leaked before our official announcement which will of course include the visuals and information to support it. Well, now that the cat is out of the bag, we owe it to you and the fans to shed a little more light before we get the chance to officially show them what the guys have been up to.

Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually SHOW YOU.
We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board.

We can't wait to show you more, bear with us. Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess. More coming soon!

Was just thinking about that game the other day. It's an awesome game, just needs some variation in the combat, I'll have to play it again.

I hope they develop whatever this is for the PC this time. If they try to say that games are more immersive when you're sitting on a couch (like they said for the first Alan Wake), I'll probably strangle someone.

Cool. Alan Wake was a neat game with a few really interesting things going for it. I wouldn't mind a sequel. Just make playing it more fun.

So it's the next installment, but not Alan Wake 2... Alan Wake: Brotherhood?

Oh good - a spin-off? Maybe a prequel? Alan Wake had potential - sure the combat was a little repetitive, but it was genuinely interesting, and few games these days are set in small, lumber-dependent american towns (the only other recent game set in such a place was Deadly Premonition). So I'm glad that they are continuing with Alan Wake - because it was a bit different when compared to most other games these days.

All they need is another mechanic besides shooting. Oh shooting can still be in there - but there should be a bit more next time.

Hopefully it's not just an expanded version of the first game, it's a worrying to me that they are saying it's a jumping on point for new fans though I suppose that could mean a lot of things. A prequel would be good, really enjoyed the first game so I'm interested to see how they push the series forwards and if they'll tweak a few of the weaker elements from the first.

Sounds strange but Alan Wake was great and Remedy are a great developer. Perhaps its some kind of interactive adventure game or an in engine movie version of the first game since that would explain the smaller team and how it would introduce new players to the universe. That or its an Alice Wake game.
