Back in late April, Alan Wake's American Nightmare was found in a steam registry update, pretty much confirming that a PC release was inevitable. Well now it's official that the game will be coming to the PC as it is currently listed on the steam store for 10% off.

Unfortunately there is currently no release date on the page, my guess is that it will be released some time in the summer.

I can't wait! I bought two copies of Alan Wake to support the creators of Max Payne, got my mind BLOWN by that masterpiece (was taken totally by surprise) not to mention that it ran BEAUTIFULLY on PC.

So should I play Alan Wake on PC or 360? Achievements are tempting but I'd kill myself collecting everything.

If you have a PC capable of running modern games, totally PC.
The Steam achievements are many and marvelous, you can use a gamepad ofcourse, the game looks and controls so much better than its X360 counterpart, both DLCs are bundled free with it.and most importantly the free-cam feature is exclusive to the PC game. You can hit a button and go into free-cam mode, the same ones the developers use. Fly across the entire game map, take all kinds of screenshots and maybe cheat and see what's waiting ahead.
And all of that is 15$ on Steam right now!

Alan Wake is one of the best PC games in recent memory so I absolutely recommend it on that platform.

Will this appeal to me if I'm not a fan of horror? Does it near the quality of Max Payne, or is it great in a different kind of way?

You don't have to be a fan of horror to enjoy it. Granted, the game relies heavily on intense spooky sequences and at times you begin to feel you're drowning in the darkness around you, gasping for a breath of light in the environment, but still, this is an extremely polished, extremely beautiful and well written Remedy game.
There are a few Payne references by the way: (not plot spoilers, just surprise spoilers)

I couldn't have possibly asked for a better spiritual successor to Max Payne 1 and 2 than Alan Wake, and on the PC, and I'm not even that fond of horror. I can't recommend it enough.

I should point out that both Alan Wake & American Nightmare are available over at GOG.com as well.

Alan Wake is currently on sale for $15 (that includes all the DLC), and American Nightmare is on pre-sale.

Quick note that if you already own Alan Wake on steam the pre-order discount is 25% off instead of 10% off :)

Steam achievements are weird for me in that I don't obsess over them when playing a game, but am disappointed when they aren't even available.

I'm still totally getting this. Alan Wake was so fucking fantastic.

including some sound effects from the game, a '3 years ago in new york' flashback, a dog called Max, and two voice actors straight from Max Payne 2 (I won't say who).

Don't forget all those novels Alan Wake wrote: Return to Sender, What I Can't Forget, Alex Casey, The Things That I Want, and The Fall of Casey.

They may be added closer to launch. Saints Row 3 was listed on Steam with no achievements for a good long while before launch date.
