Skip to 7:40 to catch the madness. It's kind of neat seeing him on there again. Also kind of depressing to see what OTS has become.

Wow On the Spot is pretty awful these days.  Their new editors have no personality and are pretty annoying

god the new staff blows

OMG that Lark dude looks so weird.

#5 Posted by Cube (4366 posts) -

God damnit OTS is hard to watch. Scripted, unfunny, and I hate Lark Anderson so much, GOD.

#6 Edited by MetalGearSunny (7003 posts) -

What the hell, it's like they are told to say everything they're saying!

EDIT- That was funny though.

Agreed.

Uhhhhg Lark Anderson, "Hey I'm so scripted it ain't funny, look at me trying to be cool!"

And what happened to the intro?
What happened to the "OOOOOOON THE SPOOOT"
#8 Posted by CoolDrMoney (1978 posts) -

Remember when Greg Mueller was the worst we got? Lark Anderson seems to be about 15 notches below that.

GameSpot hate thread will get locked.

Cool to see Alex in there.

@zombie2011: Don't talk shit about Lark.

Whatever, On the Spot remains rad. Awesome seeing Alex on again, great entrance.

He doesn't look that weird, but after his hilariously off-base Fire Emblem:  Radiant Dawn review, I do not trust his judgment.  Reading that review, it's like he only played maybe the first ten chapters, got super-pissed at the difficulty, and then rage-quit to write the review.  It just didn't seem like he had played through the entire game at all.

Ugh...  Alex should've taken over the whole show...  Gamespot, what have you become :(

Rich Gallup would not be pleased

#13 Edited by Kajaah117 (1070 posts) -

The show isn't quite the worst thing I've ever seen, and the staff is good at doing their jobs(doing what they're asked to do), but the whole show is far too pretentious. Nobody seems genuine, the dialog is stiff, and the whole production itself is trying so hard to be professional that it loses that loose atmosphere, and genuine intimacy of the show during the golden years.

Oh well, good thing there's GiantBomb.com. What's Giant Bomb you ask? It's a video game website... about video games! They even have LIM systems!

#14 Posted by marth (33 posts) -

It seems like On The Spot has moved to a show closer to that of Electric Playground.  I will agree that their staff on the show don't seem to have too much personality on camera.

Alex is in a lot of the videos harmonix has put up from different stuff over at vimeo.
http://vimeo.com/6108641 <-- that's them on QVC as seen on the giantbomb.com. A website about videogames

Me too. The show is pretty horrible now too. :(

Oh, and Alex is awesome!

I still like all the guys over at gamespot. Just not enough to visit the site.

EKBERG!

Great to seeAlex....brings back all the great memories of the classic OTS days....man they used to have all the best people on one site..(face sad). GB style reunion now!!!
#21 Posted by ascholzk (261 posts) -

tor thorson is sort of odd, but chris watters is pretty bad
of coarse none of which are better then the GB crew

#22 Posted by Karn (690 posts) -

Which way is America?

#23 Edited by skrutop (3615 posts) -

Who the hell are these people?  I know who Jody is, but that's about it.

Ah, Alex doing OTS segments.  Those were the days.  That being said, I'm pretty into the unpolished and unprofessional GB videos.  For some reason they seem less, I don't know, car salesman-ish.  (I know, pretty obvious since I'm a GB user.)

#24 Posted by MatthewMeadows (588 posts) -

Meh, that show was fine, nowhere near as good as the golden days but still fine.

This video also made me want a weekly Giant Bomb studio-style flagship show. Ah well.

#25 Posted by RelentlessKnight (965 posts) -

This new OTS format looks great but it is overshadowed with lame jokes and no personality.

#26 Posted by Toxin066 (3326 posts) -

I used to watch about 3-4 years ago when Rich was still on it. Dramatic drop in quality after he left. I do like the switch to 20minutes...not that it's going to make me watch it. I'll listen to the hotspot and read the occasional news column/review on gamespot though.   I thought Alex's cameo was pretty great.  Free shirts? now THAT'S  a giveaway.

Tor's always been weird, never really liked him because he always screamed everything, and not in an awesome Jeff kind of way.

It looks like they sucked the soul out of the show, along with the live streameyness, oh well.

Miss Alex and the rest of the old GS crew. I haven't been to GS site since the incident . Does anyone else know where Alex, Rich, and Carrie are up to these days?

Reporting? What "reporting" did Alex do? He was just shouting into the mic for people to check out the set.

Wow they killed on the spot!

For all the people who are talking shit about On The Spot, I should say that the original On The Spot with our favorite Giant Bomb friendlies wasn't that great either.  It got a lot of the same comments that you people are spewing now, actually.  Folks have to be given some time to grow into it all.  Moreover, most of you people blame the wrong folks for the wrong reasons.

#33 Posted by LiquidSwords (2738 posts) -
@OwnlyUzinWonHan:
Cool, thanks!

Watched the video with Alex.  It was cool to see.  It's obviously something that they set up before rolling the camera.  That's Alex for ya.

He was the only entertaining part of the show...

@jakob187: all i know is the new OTS will no have jeff pointing into the camera telling me " anime is for jerks. "

and because of that i'm NOT INTERESTED

The new OTS looks like it would be too scared of offending its fanbase and that would mean *GASP* LESS TRAFFIC

#39 Posted by Expletive (1057 posts) -

they did the whole " 'insert big game here' have you heard of it?" joke for every game

#40 Posted by Thekeenan (74 posts) -

Ya I am going to have to agree with pretty much everyone here and say that the "new OTS" is pretty bad.

I was kinda optimistic about it when they were promoting it but after watching an few episodes that is pretty much it for me.

The host and pretty much everyone else feel like they are out of place and very impersonal. Maybe they will grow into their roles/on the viewers but I am not going to stick around to find anytime soon.

I MISS THE OLD GAMESPOT WITH THE DREAM TEAM! :' (
And i agree with everyone else about the new staff. They are terrible, no personality (which is why everyone loved the dream team), and there just boring and it feels like they want to be as great as the dream tream, but no, no team of editiors will ever be able to replace them.

#42 Posted by TimeWaffle (946 posts) -

I'm so glad i get to see the old gamespot crew at PAX in like a week

#43 Posted by JJWeatherman (14569 posts) -

I think that the moment Alex takes the microphone away, it was like a look back in time. It was so great, at least for a minute until it switched back to that boring dude again. That moment is the perfect metaphor for what Gamespot was in the past and where it's heading.

#44 Posted by FlamingHobo (4511 posts) -

I never used to watch OTS, but it's cool to see Alex.

#45 Posted by deadly_polo (471 posts) -

The worst bit was that on the first of the new On the spot's Ricardo Torres (who took over Jeff's job) called it "TOTS" (Today on the Spot). I miss the crazy ass old OTS.

Though Ryan McDonald and Brian Ekberg are pretty good - Tor Thorsen (news guy) really scares me.

Memory Lane, Tor it still cool tho

#48 Posted by Evilsbane (4738 posts) -

I think the main thing is OTS lost that, quickly thrown together indie kinda feel. Besides I was sad with Rich left but when when Jeff was  "Let Go" I haven't touched Gamespot since.
