One of the few A-list games for the jaguar platform.

ALIEN VS PREDATOR is a first person shooter developed by Rebellion software studios and published by Atari for the Jaguar system . The  game allowed the player to choose one of three characters, the Alien, predator or as a Colonial Marine by the name of  Lance Lewis. It was a premier release for the jaguar system in 1994 and it was hoped, by Atari to redress and reverse flagging sales of the console in all regions. Alas news of the Sega Saturn and of the Sony Play-station in the works, plus a weak software catalog, failed to achieve this. The system was all but defunct within a few months.

The game takes place entirely on a Colonial Marine Training base. Accept a few missions on the Aliens ships. The ship is boarded and obviously the marine space base soon becomes infested with Aliens . And Of course, once the Aliens get inside the base, they kill off nearly everyone in sight. Meanwhile the Predator ship docks with the marine base. They storm the base for an opportunity to catch an Alien Queen they have detected, so they can return to their home planet and honor their specific clan with the Alien.

There are three scenarios in which to play. First you can play as a Marine. Your job is to find a way to self-destruct the base and kill all the nasties while making your escape in a life raft (pod) before it goes nuclear. The second scenario allows you to play as an Alien. Your job is to find and protect the Queen from the Marines as well as the Predators. Finally, you can play as the Predator. The Predator must simply find  the Alien Queen and take her back to its homeworld.

The play consists of the 5 levels of the training base, plus areas on the Predator and Alien vessels. All the areas of the base ship are inter-connected, giving the game a huge environment, for time of its release anyway. Depending on the scenario you choose first, Alien, Predator or Human, you will have to use a different strategy based on the capabilities of that specific race. For example, the Marine will have to make use of his guns and his ability to use the ship's computer terminal system. The Aliens, on the other hand, will have to make use of their large numbers and ability to cocoon their foes. And then there are Predators who must fight with honor and not over-use their superior fire power and vast array of technology

The game came with three insert cards for the jaguar controller which went in the middle of the pad, over the 1-9 buttons. These were used for in-game functions, and also made the the pad look almost OK. This is saying something, as the Jaguar pad was a massive hunk of thing that looked pretty terrible! This game has become very hard to get hold of these days, specially in complete form with the inserts, and sells for a pretty penny on auction sites like Ebay.
