BISHOP In seventeen minutes this place will be a cloud of vapour the size of Nebraska.

17 minutes later: BOOOM!

2 weeks later: Colonial Marines.

I thought it was set in a nearby colony or something? Like the next town over that got damaged pretty badly but is still standing?

EDIT: More questionably, I thought the Sulaco crash-landed on the prison planet in Alien 3?

Just an escape pod that launched after a fire on the Sulaco.

CM takes place 17 weeks after Aliens according to a Eurogamer preview and I remember hearing in an interview that the atmospheric processor explosion will be discussed in game.

How about if all the colonists and the hive in the colony were nuked in the the explosion, why are there still aliens on this planet? Doesn't it work like facehugger>host impregnated>chest burster>full grown?
