    @The_Laughing_Man:
    The wiki page has a decent overview.  There are several main points from the material I've seen so far:
    • They are calling it "The Espionage RPG".  It's a spy story, which is a rarely used theme in video games, especially RPGs
    • Mix of action and Role Playing.  Combat is mostly real time gun play, but you have stats to govern your abilities, and multiple approaches encounters (e.g. focus on Stealth with CQC takedowns, Explosives, or go in guns blazing. (I think one of the GB guys compared it to Mass Effect 2: if there were a new genre for ME2 -- that particular mix of RPG and Shooter -- the Alpha Protocol would be in the same genre, and that this would be bad to AP, because ME2 was better than AP is likely to be. Uhm, there is room for more than one game in a genre guys.)
    • Decent looking dialogue system.  Rather than choose an answer, you choose an attitude, with different characters responding differently to each attitude. Each conversation is supposedly one time only, so you can't talk to someone again and expect the same dialogue.
    • Non-obvious branching paths.  Decisions won't immediately cause a branch (so you can't save scum), but several hours later might (I think in combination with other decisions)
    • Only about 20 hours long, but with the branching story and multiple ways to approach combat, it is design to be played multiple times.
    • Developed by Obsidian, which is made up of former Black Isle guys (Fallout 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment).  I haven't played any of their games since they became Obsidian, but supposedly they are pretty good, except in cases where the game was rushed out the door by the publisher (e.g. KoTOR II)

    Personally, it looks really cool, but I'm still hesitant.  It's extremely ambitious, which means more ways for it to get screwed up.  And it's been pushed back several times now.  I hope it's good, but I will be waiting for reviews, at least, and possibly a price drop.
