While pretty much useless in a fight, Amadeus is very useful when solving many puzzles. With a box, you can jump to higher areas, balance a scale that is too heavy on one side, or to block a huge cog from moving. His levitation ability can obviously move objects, but can also spin wheels and turn planks that will get him where he wants.
His offensive capabilities are limited to dropping items on the skeletons, however planks can kill several at once, so he is by no means useless at fighting.
