Because every protagonist with a chainsaw for an arm deserves a second shot, I’m stoked to share this bit of news with you: Platinum Games has revealed a new action-oriented, online-centric game featuring Jack of Madworld fame. It's called Max Anarchy and, unfortunately, further details are super sketchy at the moment.

Here's what we've got. In an interview with Famitsu magazine (translated via Andriasang), Platinum's Atsushi Inaba brands Max Anarchy as a "massively multiplayer melee fighting action" game. He doesn't dive into specifics, but he does confirm the assumption based on that branding that Max Anarchy will support a large number of players tasked with beating each other up in a free-for-all scenario.

As for the Jack thing... well, it appears as if Platinum just wanted to put the star in another title. Inaba says he'll make an appearance for sure, but the game won't revolve around him--not even its offline campaign component, which was mentioned in passing alongside a separate co-op component.

The game is slated to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 at some point worldwide in Fall 2011, so we'll probably hear a lot more about Max Anarchy in the coming months. I guess I should add that Inaba seems pretty sure Platinum is doing something with this game that has never been done before, so this should be an interesting one to follow.

Any Platinum Game means that I'm interested.

#5 Posted by Mesoian (1574 posts) -

Well, as long as there are more sexy girls in stripped stockings, I'm in.

#6 Posted by Sessh (821 posts) -
Well, this could be really good, since Mad World is one of the very few Wii Titles that I actually genuinely enjoyed.

Will definetly have to keep an eye on this one.

@dillinger:
Yeah, fantastic comment. "First" or "Finally" would have been equally great.

Never actually played MW, but because of their last three games, auto-interest in this one.

How do Platinum put out so much?

#9 Posted by RJPelonia (863 posts) -

Don't want to get my hopes up too high for this, but definitely color me interested.

#10 Posted by HarlequinRiot (1098 posts) -

Hm, that's pretty interesting. Melee fighting multiplayer games hasn't really been tried before.

cool.... i really didn't like madworld but hey ill give it a shot when it comes out

#13 Posted by JustinSane311 (335 posts) -

MadWorld had alot of great style but everything else was severely lacking.

#14 Posted by TheKramer89 (423 posts) -

Platinum reminds me of my developer in "Game Dev Story," getting a triple A title out in no time at all.
#15 Posted by Killroycantkill (1406 posts) -

So far Platinum hasn't done me wrong, I'm sure this game will be good as well.
#16 Posted by DonutFever (3551 posts) -

Can't wait, multiplayer might have been cool for the original but it was split-screen only so I didn't play it ore than once.

#17 Posted by JohnDudebro (924 posts) -

If Jack is just making an appearance and the game "doesn't revolve around him", isn't it kinda disingenuous to call this a MadWorld follow-up? I feel like that implies more connection than there is.

Not really a complaint with the game, just the headline.

Aahhhhhh

So this is a screenshot from Mad World? Because that makes this pretty misleading. Might wanna disclaimerize that.

#20 Posted by LOZZAT (252 posts) -

Awesome, bit worried about anything that has the words "massively multiplayer" associated with it, but then again, I know nothing about this yet. Hoping for gameplay or more info soon.

#21 Posted by Spike94 (735 posts) -

I MOST DEFINITELY AM! Seriously, this sounds awesome.
#22 Posted by TooWalrus (13206 posts) -

It has potential, I really like the concept of Madworld, that game was just kinda boring.

#23 Posted by Raven_Sword (3447 posts) -

By being on the HD consoles its guranteed to sell more then the Wii Mad World ever did.
#24 Posted by Liquidus (946 posts) -

Well, considering these are the former Clover Studio guys and after Bayonetta and Vanquish, I'll buy anything with Platinum Games written on it.

#25 Posted by Undeadpool (4944 posts) -

Platinum's only made one game I didn't like (and at least three that I've REALLY liked), so I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt.

#26 Posted by Little_Socrates (5677 posts) -

Psyched, actually. I might wanna go play Madworld sooner or later, though.

#27 Posted by Dragnipur (9 posts) -

No brainer decision, put a mature themed game on the consoles with the most mature user base!

Because they layer their production cycles. Madworld, Bayonetta, Vanquish, and this are handled by different directors and different combinations of teams. Kind of like Pixar, by the time the next game is ready to be announced its already been in development for two years.  It also helps that the games that they make are tightly focused and designed for replayability as their strength opposed to massive sprawling games.

You know, that and they're an incredible team thats been doing amazing things for a long time now.

Platinum is money, I'll have to keep an eye on this game.

#30 Posted by Robin_Gr (137 posts) -

A Japanese developed 3rd person fighting game with a focus on online? That combination is far from appealing.

Sex.

#32 Posted by jNerd (2012 posts) -

I'm really excited for this! I hope it's great!

#33 Posted by onarum (2094 posts) -

MadWorld was kind of stupid to be honest, not very excited about this at all.

#34 Posted by Crushed (884 posts) -

This isn't a MadWorld follow-up at all, and putting a MW screenshot in the article doesn't help.

God damn it Nicholson.

#35 Posted by EDMIX (17 posts) -

And so it begins....
#36 Posted by Gordy (204 posts) -

So is there an American company working on the online part? I don't know one Japanese dev that knows what they're doing when it comes to that.

Well if the main character from MadWorld is in it and it's keeping the same premise of "bloody gladitorial reality TV combat!" then how is it not a MadWorld follow up?

I will totally buy this game because Platinum rocks.

Who wants to take bets that this gets delayed at least a year?

#39 Posted by BBQBram (2236 posts) -

This has me intrigued.

Ok I was excited for this, as I couldn't really get into the Wii version that much because of the controls, until I saw

"massively multiplayer melee fighting action"

So in other words it's going to be a multiplayer focused arena beat em up (please stop using the terms "massively multiplayer" for this kind of thing as well). While mildly amusing, I have a feeling it's going to be pretty shallow if that's what their goal is with it.

#41 Posted by MikkaQ (10294 posts) -

I DON'T CARE WHAT THIS IS I JUST WANT IT.

#42 Posted by Pickingwings (182 posts) -

I glad Platinum games is giving Jack another try, but I'm not sure about a online multiplayer centered game.  Hopefully the offline campaign will still be able to stand by itself.

#43 Posted by MordeaniisChaos (5730 posts) -

So... It's an MMO... With a Singleplayer campaign.... and a coop campaign... .And it's... a 3D brawler...? whut?

I suppose it could be shallow in the same way people say Left 4 Dead is shallow.  Their goal may be multiplayer focused, but with a random new experience every time you play.

Oh my-- what?
Brawler MMO? Mad World? Bayonetta? WHAT??

#49 Posted by Redbullet685 (6044 posts) -

Looking forward to this.

I don't know how this game was ever put first
on the fucking Wii.  There better be a single-player
campaign, otherwise I don't see the point of yet
another online multiplayer shooter.  Mindless run
& gun just doesn't entertain that well anymore.
