Animal Crossing: Wild World

Animal Crossing: Wild World is a video game that consists of 0 releases

The DS follow-up to the GameCube classic expands on the gameplay introduced in the original and adds WiFi multiplayer.

Overview

Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS is a simulation game developed by Nintendo EAD as a sequel to the Nintendo GameCube title Animal Crossing.  Wild World improves on the original by adding a barber shop, new furniture, expanding the potential area of your house, and adding WiFi to the game while keeping most of the content that made the original game a success.  The acre system of movement was removed in favor of a rolling effect, which allows the top screen of the DS to be the sky.  The game can be either entirely controlled by touch or buttons.  Critical reception to the game was overall positive, but some fans wish the game had more new content considering the title more of an expansion than a full sequel.

Main Characters

Male Villager

Male Villager

This is the character you play as if you choose to be male.  He will not necessarily look like this though.  You are given a random appearance based on questions asked in the beginning of the game.  In the game you can make more changes to your appearances with haircuts, clothing, and accessories.

Female Villager

Female Villager

You can also choose to be female in Wild World.  Just like the male villager you answer a series of questions which decide your appearance.

Tom Nook

Tom Nook is a raccoon who provides you with a house at the start of the game.  To start paying off your debt he makes you work at his store doing various tasks such as delivering purchases to customers, planting flowers, and advertising his store.  After finishing your work he let's you go but you still have to find a way to make money to pay off the debt.  After paying it off you can decide for Tom Nook to upgrade your house, which can be done several times to increase size, add a new floor, and new rooms.  Tom Nook's main purpose is his shop though.  It has new items to purchase on a daily basis and will upgrade over time.

K.K. Slider

K.K. Slider is a guitar playing dog who visits your village every Saturday night at the Cafe.  He will play a song for you and also takes requests if there is something in particular you want to hear.  After his performance he provides you with an aircheck to play in your house.

Mr. Resetti

Mr. Resetti is a angry mole that will only visit your village if you attempt to turn off or reset the game without saving, which is considered cheating.  The game attempts to simulate real life and resetting is not possible in real life so they inserted Mr. Resetti to counter that.  Mr. Resetti punishes the player by just have obnoxiously long speeches for you and sometimes making you type messages which insult yourself.

Blathers

Blathers

Blathers is the curator of the local museum.  He accepts any donations of fossils, painting, bugs or fish that you may have.  He also will inspect fossils, tell you what they are, and if they can be donated to the museum.  He is known for his love of fish(he gives you recipes when you donate fish to the museum), his extreme fear of insects, and for getting "frightfully tired" during the day.  The more you donate to the museum, the happier Blathers is to see you.

Mayor Tortimer

Mayor Tortimer

Tortimer is the mayor of your town.  He can be seen working in the back of the town office year round.  He comes out of the office for special events such as New-Years Eve.  He often gives out free items such as Roman Candles and Firecrackers.  He also hosts events such as the Bug-Off and the Fishing Tourney.  It is highly suspected that Tortimer is also Cornimer, the leader of the Acorn Festival that lasts a week in October.

Mable Able

Mable Able

One of the Able Sisters.  Mable is in charge of running the store.  She is the person you talk to when it comes to sales and making your own designs.  She will tell you anything you put on looks good.

Sable Able

Sable Able

One of the Able Sisters.  Sable does a majority of the sewing for the store.  She is much quieter than her sister.  Only after saying hello to her daily for a number of days can you get her to start talking to you.

Characters That Sell Things

Redd

Redd

Redd is the leader of the local Black Market.  Once a week(determined by the player) he sets up a tent in Town.  In order to get into his tent you need a password, which can be obtained by talking to other villagers or by getting on Redd's mailing list.  He sells rare items and paintings at extremely marked up prices(up to double).  He seems to have a sizable distaste for Tom Nook.

Joan

Joan

You can buy and sell turnips for profit just like the stock market. Turnips are sold every Sunday from 6am to noon by the wandering boar Joan in bunches of 10, 50, or 100. After you buy turnips you will be able to sell them to Tom Nook any day except Sundays. His prices vary from day to day so wait until you can make a decent profit before selling them. Don't get too greedy or else you may have to sell them for a loss. After all, turnips rot after a week and are then useless.

Saharah

Saharah

Saharah makes her living selling rare and exotic carpets from far away lands. Like most of the game's other special characters, Saharah sells items that can't be found anywhere else. She does, however, have a different way of doing business. She accepts trade-ins. In order to get your hands on one of her carpets you must trade in one of your carpets along with some money. Her prices go up each time you buy a carpet and prices can get pretty steep. Don't be stingy because chances are she has that carpet you need to complete a certain Series or Theme.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Animal Crossing: Wild World is quite similar to the Gamecube version.  The game starts off with character creation.  This is done in the form of a taxi driver asking you questions about yourself.  When you first get to town you are met by Tom Nook.  He will give you the rundown on what to do and will tell you that you owe him money.  He gives you a few jobs to start you off but after that, it's up to you to find the money to pay him off.

Earning Money

One of the main things you do in Animal Crossing: Wild World is try to earn money.  Without money you can't pay off Tom Nook, furnish your house or invest in turnips.  There are a large variety of things you can do to earn money, they include:

Fishing - Fishing is a fun, albeit slow way to make money.  You buy a fishing rod from Tom Nook's store, find a body of water, watch for dark outlines of fish, and get to business.  You can tell when you have caught a fish by the way the bobber on your line moves.  If it goes under water, you have a bite.  You only have about one second to reel in before the fish escapes.  The prices Tom Nook will pay you for fish range from 150 to over 20,000 bells.

Fossils - Fossils is an incredibly slow way of making money.  You need to look for little x-shaped holes in the ground.  If you see one, you dig in that spot with your shovel.  You may get an unidentified fossil or you may get a number of other things.  If you get an unidentified fossil you must take it to Blathers, who is located in the museum.  He will identify it for you.  Generally, skulls are worth more than bodies, while bodies are worth more than tails.

Tasks - You can get tasks by talking to the local towns-folk.  They will often give you a mission to go find another villager and give/get something from them.  The locals will more often pay in items than bells, though you can sell the items for money.

Fruit Harvesting -  By far the most profitable, and fastest way of making money.  The key to this is not to use the local fruit, but to use fruit from a different town.  After successfully locating fruit from a different town and planting a tree that grows to maturity, you can get to work.  You plant as many trees as possible.  You then harvest the fruit (each being worth 500 bells) and sell them to Tom Nook for a profit of 7,500 bells-per-load.  The more loads you can get the better.  The only downside to this method is that you must wait three days for the trees to replenish their fruit before trying again.  If you establish enough trees you can easily make over 200,000 bells every three days.

Your Town

There are many different places in your town, other than Villagers' houses which are randomly spread through your town. Here's a few of them:

TOWN HALL - This is the first building you enter when you start a new game. After the cab leaves you on the front door and you enter it, the Mayor's kind clerk, Pelly, will greet you to your new home and tell you where your house is on the Town Map. After you find your house and all, you can come visit the Town Hall for various things: you can check what the other villagers think about the enviroment, change the Town Tune (which plays every time when you exit a house or building or when the hour changes), donate Bells to the poor people of a foreing town called Boondox or move out of the town. You can also mail letters at the Post Office to the right area of the Town Hall, save and / or withdraw Bells (thus developing your own little Bank account -this is convenient when your pocket is full of Bells and it cannot hold anymore; the limit your pocket can hold is 99,999 Bells and the limit of Bells saved at the bank is about a whopping 999,999,999 (!) Bells), save a letter and pay the mortgage of your house. The last thing on the Town Hall is the Recycling Bin, which is emptied Mondays and Thursdays at 6 A.M. If there are any items in the bin you can get them out and store them as yours, or you can save some of your items in there, if you cannot hold anymore...just remember to get them back before the bin is emptied again!

TOM NOOK STORE - This is your official House of Cash. You can make a fortune in here and buy lots of stuff for your room and for other things. When you first play the game, Tom Nook will have you as a part-time assistant of his, and put you into various tasks around the town. When you're finished with that, you will be able to buy things from his store and sell some of your own to him. Tom Nook is also responsible for your house construction, and you'll constantly have to pay him the mortgage -that doesn't mean you have to pay him all at once. You can deposit some money every day at the Town Hall. At the beginning, Nook's "store" is actually only a wooden shack, with a limited amount of items to buy from, but you can buy everything from him: lapms, beds, dressers, TVs, shovels, axes, papers, flower packs, wall and floor decorations, even strange items like the Moon -as long as you have enough money. Tom Nook changes his stock daily, so you never know what's in store for you every day. As told, at the beginning Nook has a very small store. But as you sell him more items and buy more items from him, the store will expand and grow larger. Here's a brief explanation of the expansions:

  • Nook's Cranny: Available from the start. It's a wooden shack with a very limited amount of items for sale.
  • Nook n' Go: The first expansion of the store. It looks more like a mini-market and has a fair selection of items to choose from. The store will expand to this once you pay Nook 25,000 Bells or get the same amount of money from him by selling.
  • Nookway: A supermarket with a good selection of items to buy. This expansion will be done when you've paid Nook around 90,000 Bells and / or have received from Nook 90,000 Bells.
  • Nookingtons: The final store upgrade, with a huge selection of items, two floors full of goodies, and even a barber shop inside! Tom Nook will take care of your needs in the first floor, while his two newphews, Timmy and Tommy, will be waiting for you on the second one. Also, the owner of the Barber Shop is called Harriet. Available when you pay Nook 240,000 Bells or get the same amount from him and have a friend from a different town shop at his store.

Another thing that makes Nook's store different than a regular one is the PTM system, a machine in the corner of the store that gives you points everytime you buy something from it. For every 100 Bells you give away, 1 point is added. If you reach 300 points, you aquire the Membership Status, which earns you a model of Nook's Cranny. At 5,000 points you get a 5% discount for every item that you buy and the Nook n' Go model, at 10,000 points you get a 10% discount and the Nookway model and finally at 20,000 points you get a 20% discount and the Nookingtons model.

THE ABLE SISTERS - This store is right next to Tom Nook's. It's clothing-orientated, so you'll only visit the shop to buy new clothes and accessories for your head, like a cool hat or sunglasses etc. You can also design a pattern of your own with 360 Bells, and you can use that pattern as your clothing, your hat, even your floor and wall decoration! You can also have one of your patterns displayed in the store so more villagers can go see it and buy it. You can sell stuff in this store as well, but only clothing-orientated. The shop is run by two hedgehog sisters, Mabel and Sabel. Mabel is like Tom Nook, and will help you at anything you ask for, while Sable is in the corner and is busy designing patterns. If you talk to Sable, she will try to get you away from her because she's not much of an open character, but as you continue talking to her through the days and weeks, she'll quit being so stiff and start talking back too. Unfortunately, this store has no upgrades.

MUSEUM - This museum is completely empty at the beginning, with only Blathers the Owl at the entry hall sitting in a spot and waiting for guests to come by. Blathers tends to sleep at daytime, so you'll see him a lot standing still and sleeping, while at nightimes he's awake and waits for anybody to come in. When you talk to Blathers, you can donate fishes, insects, fossils or paintings (paintings are only found on Crazy Redd's store), check an undentified fossil, see the exhibitions of things already donated and their donor, or ask about this place. At the beginning Blathers says he's rather ashamed that there's next to nothing in the museum, but as you donate more and more fishes, bugs, fossils etc. He'll start thanking you and saying "please enjoy the fruits of your labor". There are 4 hallways through the entry hall, each leading to the Fish, Bug, Fossil and Painting Exhibition, while there is also a stairway up to the Observatory and a stairway down to a Coffee Shop. The Observatory is run by Celeste, the owl sister of Blathers which tends to sleep too at daytime, and she will show you around the observatory. You can gaze at the stars through the telescope or create your own constellations in the sky, which will be shown at nightime. After you create one, Celeste will ask you to name it and then tell you at which day you will be able to see it best. Now, the owner of the Coffee Shop (called "Roost" by the way) is a pigeon named Brewster. Brewster is much like Sable; not very friendly and open to others. The asking price for a cup of coffee is 200 Bells, and at the beginning he will only say "it might be a tad expensive but it's worth it" and "thanks..." but as you visit his shop more often and drink coffee from him, he'll warm up, start talking to you, asking you if he can put pigeon milk into your coffee and become your friend. You don't win anything out of this, but a new friend. There are also many by-passers that hang around the Roost at specific times; most of them are familiar: Kapp'n, Pelly, Phyllis, Ressetti, Rover and other people. There is also this troubadour dog called K.K. Slider, which plays his guitar in there every Saturday from 7 P.M. You can request him a song, but not just any song. There is a specific list of made-up songs that he can play. If you request him something he doesn't recognize, he'll just play a random tune and tell you that he didn't know what your song sounds like. If you do request him a song he knows, after playing it, he'll give you the song as an item in your pockets, so you can put it into a tape recorder or a hi-fi stereo or whatever and listen to it. Here's some songs he knows well: K.K. Rock, Go K.K. Rider, K.K. Gumbo, Forest Life. Be sure to type them right in order for him to play them.
