Well I just tried my luck at this. Apparently I bought the game too early, you are only eligible for a game if you purchased APB after 7/15/2010. I bought it 6/29/2010. Here is my conversation with the lovely "Carol", I carried this convo out pretty far, partially because I wanted a new game and partially because I was having fun coming up with responses and seeing how she dealt with them.
Carol: Hi, my name is Carol. How may I help you?
: Hello, Carol. I am here because I recently saw an article on GiantBomb.com about All Points Bulliten, and its shutting down.
Carol: Are you there?
: I was saddened to see the game to have such a short lifespan.
Carol: I do apologize for the inconvenience that caused to you.
: I am also a little bit upset, because I spent $50, and now I cannot play it anymore.
Carol: May I know when did you purchase the game?
Carol: And where from?
: June 29, 2010 via the Steam Store
Carol: Ok
: Is it a possibility that I can perhaps obtain compensation, because I am no longer able to play that particular title?
Carol: We at EA have worked to provide a working resolution for customers who recently purchased APB, either through the EA Store or a Third-Party Retailer.
Carol: As with all offerings, however, there is a limit to the length of time these compensatory offerings can be provided. In this case, we must limit the offer to purchases within 60 days of the game's closure date. As your purchase did occur before 7/15/10, we will be unable to provide further compensation in this regard.
Carol: Please understand that we do value you as a customer and as a show of our appreciation, we would like to provide you with a coupon good towards 20% off a future purchase from the EA Online Store.
: Carol, I am just like any other customer. I do not think that I should not be able to obtain, an acceptable and equal compensation, just like other paying customers that supported both EA and Realtime Worlds.
Carol: I do apologize for the inconvenience that caused to you.
Carol: But we have policy and we need to follow this
: I understand you have common policies and you must respect them, not only do I understand, but I expect any well ran company to do so. On the other hand, I am only around 2 weeks outside of the parameters of your policy, because I chose to purchase the game 14-days before other customers.
: Are you sure there is nothing that can be done?
Carol: yes
: The fact that I bought it earlier, does not change the fact that I no longer have the service.
Carol: I do apologize for the inconvenience that caused to you.
: I feel an apology is unacceptable. Can you please reconsider?
Carol: Yes.
Carol: I consider it but we have some policies and we can not go against it
: Most game developers and publishers implore their customers to pre-order upcoming titles. As a supporting customer, I purchased APB as soon as I could and now I am being treated differently for doing so. Do you feel this is the correct thing? Do you morally feel that this, 60 day policy, is the correct thing to do.
: I am still within 90 days of purchasing APB.
: A 3 month warranty sounds like an acceptable policy.
Carol: I do understand.
Carol: If I were you, I would feel like this.
Carol: But as per our policy we need to follow this.
Carol: I do again apologize for the disappoint.
Carol: disappointment*
Carol: So the discount coupon is fine?
: No. It is not fine. I do not want to spend any more money, just to use a discount.
: I'm sure you can empathize how I feel.
Carol: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that caused to you. Therefore, I need to escalate this issue to my senior department and they assist you further via email as soon as possible.
: Carol, I think that would be great.
Carol: I appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
Carol: Is there anything else I may assist you with?
: I also want to thank you for cooperation and understanding.
: No thank you, that is all.
Carol: You are most welcome
Carol: have a good one
: Thank you, you too.
Carol: Bye and take cre
Carol: care*
Maybe I can work it out via email now.
