All-in-One Heavy Rain: Special Edition Arrives Next Week

$29.99 nabs you the full game, plus some bonus features.

I'm still pissed the game never explained what was happening during those weird blackouts.
I'm still pissed the game never explained what was happening during those weird blackouts.

If you missed out on Heavy Rain last year, Sony’s prepped a special edition that’s arriving next week, complete with Move support, the one and only episodic add-on (future installments were ditched in favor of adding Move), and some other bonus features to round things out.

The whole package will only set you back $29.99.

Say what you will about what Heavy Rain did wrong--and it did plenty wrong--but I’m still encouraged to see designers like David Cage trying to do something different. Games can’t get it right until they get it wrong, and maybe Cage isn’t the guy to make that kind of storytelling click, but it felt like a step in the right direction. I’ll play whatever he does next.

Was gonna get a Move to try it out on this game... Then I couldn't be bothered and just completed the game with the standard controller.

Can't they make more episodic add-ons now that they've integrated Move into Heavy Rain? What are the other bonus features?

Why don't take the opportunity and release it on the PC? I would buy that. Only thing this does for me is make me go back and play Indigo Prophecy again.

Thi game was all hat and no cattle. Beautiful to look at and intriguing for what it tried to do, but otherwise awkward to play and had plot holes and leaps of logic big enough to drive a truck through. $29.99 is a decent price for it- the original $60 made me feel ripped off.

David Cage explained what happened in those blackouts and why Ethan woke up with origami in his hand. It wasn't a very good explanation but it was supposed to be explored in Ethan's DLC which never materialized.

Basically the gist is that Scott Shelby was there the day the Ethan's son died in a car accident and from that day onward had a psychic link with him as a result of their trauma. So in Ethan's blackouts he was experiencing Shelby's actions. Like I said, wasn't a good explanation.

I'd rather play a failed experiment over a polished version of the same old, same old any time. I absolutely loved this game in spite of its shortcomings.

With regards to the Move support, wasn't that added in a patch already?

I can explain that. Mechanically it's a novel game, it just gets much worse when you pay attention to the plot.

The game would have been damn near perfect if those stupid blackouts were explained. And if the accents weren't laughable.

Yupp, I'm all for experimenting with story telling in games and I'm grateful this game exists. But the cheap pulp detective story isn't much to brag about.

That said, I had fun playing it once.

Well it's a good thing you played through a game twice, paying nothing to the devs. Good on you. Why give anything to the people who created something you liked enough to play through twice if you can just play it for free? Great job.

They explain a lot of the unexplained stuff in the bonus videos since there were story ideas that were cut out of the game with remnants left in that created the confusion.

Haha actually I could imagine this for the Kinect
  Speak Dialogue in 3...2...1....

"Jason? Jason? Jason?!"

"Xbox! where's Jason?"

and moments like "Put your hand to the camera"....  3...2...1 cut your finger off!

Im gonna copy my kotaku comment:

I didn't get a hold of this game untill a month ago. It allways intrigued me but it came out whiles't I was really bussy at Uni and there where so many other games I needed to finish first.

I borrowed a copy from a mate, put the blue ray in the ps3, booted it up, and didn't take a break untill I had completed it. Litteraly, I didn't eat, go to the toilet or nothing. Sat the whole day.. must have taken me... 8 hours ? (I honestly can't remember)

When the experience was over, I was exausted... And felt empty inside.. But good.

It was as fantastic as I thought it would be, I was so damn tense all the way trough, and since I played it on a hard difficulty rating I couldn't relax for a sec during the more action-packed sequences.

I decided to play all characters on my first impression and gut feeling, and boy was it hard sticking with all the way trough, but very veeery rewarding. By doing this and really engaging with their every situation I had a fucking amazing experience. I cried, I swetted, I fucking shouted at the characters on the tv... It was brilliant..

side note: In some scenes with Ethan I let him just sit there.. in his thoughts.. for ages... I made it all as truthfull as possible, I never rushed because the character I saw didn't..

I couldn't play it again though.. That for me was how the story went.. and even though there were things I now would have liked to have done differently, I allmost feel It would be offensive to the characters I.. created if I went back and "fixed" their life...

Fantastic game, but personally I can't play it again for a long time..

On topic: I haven't played the DLC, and for similar reasons with a second play-trough, I couldn't possibly play a one-of episode..

The game had some of the most intense and memorable scenes this generation. Not to mention the atmosphere was portrayed so hauntingly at times. I agree that you could potentially write an essay on the plot holes and such, but it was fun to play. I believe if more people gave it a chance they would enjoy it.

I think it's crazy that they decided against more content to add move support.

Especially when the dude said he only really wants people to play the game once.

Crazy.

I did like the games but the story was balls, well told balls, but balls.

I'm pretty sure I've owned this for like a year now. The Move Edition... right? It came with some dynamic themes, the DLC, the soundtrack & a bunch of special features. It's sitting on my shelf behind me. Are you telling me that they decided against releasing one of the more interesting Move titles in other territories... until now? What the fuck are you doing Sony?

Hello- If released on the PC, I promise to buy it, a brand new shrink-wrapped copy. Has Sony so much to gain to have it released onto one platform only? It doesn't seem like it'd be able to move units on its own. Is porting this game so difficult?

Ah well.

Merci et vive la France. In the meanwhile I'm going to give Fahrenheit a try.
