Assassin's Creed for a New Era?

Wedbush Morgan analyst suggests that Ubisoft is moving its jumpy-stealthy sequel to a new era.

Artist's interpretation
Artist's interpretation
I recently had the pleasure of taping an episode of Geoff Keighley's Bonus Round for Gametrailers, alongside Kotaku blogger extraordinaire, t-shirt tycoon, and admirably committed trucker-hat enthusiast Michael McWhertor and Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. This was my first legitimate interaction with Big Mikey P, and it confirmed my standing suspicion that he is a video-game information monster. He also knows all kinds of stuff that you and I do not. I think that--unlike your average member of the enthusiast press--his job as a financial analyst wouldn't benefit so directly from breaking specific details about upcoming games, so developers and publishers likely end up telling him all sorts of awesome secret business.

I myself, however, am a member of the enthusiast press, so I'll snatch up whatever breadcrumbs Pachter drops. During the taping of Bonus Round, Pachter let slip that Ubisoft would be changing the time-frame of the freshly confirmed Assassin's Creed sequel from 1191 to “several hundred years in the future” or more specifically, “sometime in the 1700s.” While the time change was presented by Pachter as fact, he went on to speculate that the French Revolution could be a potential setting. It's an interesting prospect, and like the original Holy Land settings, it's a time and place that hasn't been exhaustively explored by other games. I understand why people were hoping to see the series head to feudal Japan for some ninja action, but I personally find the mental imagery of an Altair surrogate wearing a powdered wig and being all “sacrebleu!” to be way more compelling. Whatever Ubisoft ends up doing, I just hope they can come up with a less anticlimactic ending for the sequel.

the 1st one was an amazing step foward for gaming. The cities were amazing, the population of ai was outstanding the assasinations were some of my best  gaming memories, the missions between these assasinations SUCKED!!!!!! They had no difference between each city. Pick Pocket, Eavesdrop. If they can suss that out they have a major chance for GOTY 09.

Hmmm.....I wonder if they'll use the same device to go into memories of the past....or use the time travel device to actually go to the past (and maybe bring Altair there too)

I quite like the idea of this, its a close fit to the previous game so it should allow for a lot of historical fact mixed in with the fiction of the story.  I really enjoyed the pervious game but i do enjoy the whole stealth kill mechanic.

I think a big part of the reason I liked Assassins Creed so much was that it was crowded. There were actual crowds. When each person takes up memory and processing time it's hard to do, which is a big part of the reason we have so many post apocalyptic wastelands to play through. With almost everyone dead, you only have to render the one to six baddies that need killing.

Sure, the people walk into alleys, then walk right back out again, and the people carrying heavy loads just wander in endless circles, but that only bothered me because everything else was so good. Hooray for streets crowded with people.

Okay, let me ask you this: Do you actually know anything that happened in the 18th century, or are you just randomly bashing the time line.?

Look, all I want is Assassin's Creed: 40,000 BC

Altair leaps across gaping Mammoths and scales trees that TOTALLY DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU'D BE ABLE TO CLIMB UP THEM.

I love the French Revolution time period.  Despite the redundancy of the first game, I still loved it and am eagerly anticipating this sequel.

SPOILER WARNING FOR FIRST Assassin's ending

Don't read this if you don't want to know the ending
**************************************

I'm Chinese living in Hong Kong, and after finishing the first game, i was very excited, since somehow you got to see bloodstains on the wall

They were chinese characters, not japanese. So i began speculating if they would reveal the memories of the previous test subject who left those stains, meaning recreating an ancient China

1700s to me, makes a lot more sense in supporting this idea. The Qing dynasty was just established, and since the Qing royalty weren't the ethic majority at the time. There was great tension between the Qing guys and the Main chinese Han ppl.

Mainy assassination organisations were set up by both sides to try to over throw the Qing, or to clean out the believers in teh previous dynasty the Ming.

This is just my own wishful speculation, providing with respect a perspective possibility to which Mr. Pachter would have unlikely knew about.

Just thinking since there were still no guns in China at that time, gameplay could be kept quite similar to the previous one. And chinese lore is very heavy with assassination stories.

They are gonna fuck it up if they put it in this time.
I loved it when it was long before the 1700 it was just boring after the 1700 I say they should continue the story after Altair kills Almualim and continue the story from there.

Besides I am guessing that the Templar's and Vidic (present), would want to know where Altair hid the Piece of Eden so yeah this is what I am guessing and after they find it they may go retrieve it or they may send Desmond to get it.

But I am just saying I would be interested about the French Revolution but  I will lose alot of my interest for this game if they do. And besides in the game they may have muskets which will probably ruin it.
What I am trying to say is that if they put it in the 1700 it will ruin AC2

Je voudrai Une Assasaines Creeede dous. Lol just kidding  alittle french mixed with made up words. Anyway I like the setting. I believe there was assasins in the revolutionary war. As there alwasys have been assasins. This time, maybe they''ll have him killing people from both sides of the conflict. The sword could work, but only as a secondary weapon. Maybe a rifle as the first weap and a handgun instead of throwing knives and u could probably keep the hidden blade. That would be koolage. Also, they might be able to keep the rooftop part. Have to move more stealthy then the first seeing as they will notice most definetly if u move too fast. Also, when using guns have to have a way to shield urself from the gunfire. Maybe u could grad people and use them as human shields? that hasn't been used much in games. Viva La Games. Also to be able to see people being killed by the guilletine would be cool. Also maybe they could put saving critical people from the french revolution from execution.
