Assassin’s Creed III DLC Has Evil George Washington

Season pass pricing, which includes five pieces of content, also revealed.

No Caption Provided

Ubisoft’s expansion plans for Assassin’s Creed III look to be more ambitious than in previous offerings, with the company already announcing a three-part story called The Tyranny of King George.

The Tyranny of King George supposes the Revolutionary War didn’t end with a future full of democracy, but a power-hungry George Washington succumbing to the very thing he fought against.

“While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened,’” said executive producer Sebastien Puel in today’s press release.

Sounds like it’s not exactly canonical with the rest of the series.

Today also brings word of the inevitable season pass for Assassin’s Creed III. It will cost $29.99 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and brings five expansion packs, including multiplayer content. Ubisoft said all of the additions will be available within six months of the game’s October 30 release, and if you purchase the Season Pass, it’ll be a 25% savings over purchasing all the DLC separately.

The downloadable content will also be available on Wii U, but it’s unclear if the Season Pass will, as well. I’ve asked Ubisoft for clarification.

Not really sure I get the whole "Evil Washington" angle, but glad to see someone posted that YouTube video in here.

This is actually a very interesting concept for an alt-history DLC, as a few people whispered suggestions that it would make for a stronger America to have Washington as its king, and later many feared that he would become a monarch in all but name once he became president.

He was too noble to consider that of course, but he was an excellent political player, and so that makes the scenario of 'what if he was evil' potentially very fun.

The concept of the Americas having a king was even seriously considered. We didn't break away from England because of the king, we did it because we had to voice in the government. If the US had split federal power between a king and congress that would have solved the revolutionaries' complaints and showed that the US is a proper European style nation and not a band of rabble rousers.

I am american, and as Americans it is our duty to recognize that Washington was an asshole. yes, he founded our country, that's all well and good, but come on.

I don't want to assume you're as bad of a person as this statement makes you out to be, but I'll just chalk it up to ignorance

His military strategies put an emphasis on morale. He immediately resigned from the military at the close of the war rather than exercise any sort of control. He advocated US neutrality over holding grudges or immediately adopting stances that could threaten safety and stability in such a nation in its infancy. His dissatisfaction with the Articles of Confederation led to his spearheading the creation of the Constitution. His vehement disapproval of lavish royal titles for the country's elected chief executive and subsequent avoidance of the issue led to the finalization of the Title of Nobility Clause and the almost exclusive use of the simple term "Mr. President." The rest of the Framers simply assumed he would be the first president, and he was elected in a walkover. He served his second term reluctantly and refused a third. His final will freed all of his slaves.

There's a reason he continues to inspire people even outside the borders of the United States, though I'm sure you're unaware. Almost no revolutionary leader in history has demonstrated as much restraint and good judgment as he did.

I'd say that's crazy (I've read a book about time travelers giving AK-47's to the south during the Civil war for eff's sake.) but Whenever I think that I'm surprised by what they'll pick a fight about.

Hopefully real presidential politics will keep their attention.

Also, I really hope this "oh it's alternate timelines" is bullshit damage control, because I'm like, 95% sure that Washington is canonically an Abstergo ancestor.

Also, not gonna lie, that would've been the perfect final boss. Get to the end of the Revolution, oh shit George Washington has declared himself God Emperor of Mankind, time to have a fistfight on top of the roof of the White House.

(come on people, don' just buy DLC to "buy DLC", do it only if you want to! plus non-canonical so not like you're missing some pages in a book..)

I support this endeavour. Recently met a 3D artist working on the game and he refused to tell about a few very specific character designs he was working on. Hopefully there's more alternate-history DLC on the way. When the content is good I'll put down money for it.

This. By just about every historical account we have, Washington was a very noble and honorable man. Granted, he wasn't the greatest general, but his leadership alone made up for it (and some luck helped). Sure he owned slaves but even they were treated well, and Washington took great pleasure in managing his plantations, even working in the fields himself quite often.

Evidently there will have to be an evil George Washington throwdown between ACIII and BioShock Infinite (BioShock has robot George Washington).

Most natives did side with the British, because they were hoping to stop the colonists from expanding farther west. Who knows what would have happened if the British won though, it may have been better for them, or not.

The British would have annihilated the Natives American anyway... lets be honest.

This is not very appealing to me. Depicting one of our greatest heroes as an evil power hungry monarch doesn't seem like a great direction to take with DLC, or anything else for that matter. I understand that it is an alternate take (why not just expand on the actual canon?), but it still sounds ridiculous even for Assassins Creed standards.

I hate when DLC gets announced for a game that isn't even out yet. Let me play the fucking game before you try to entice me with even more content that will have a price tag. It almost makes it feel like your game will now be inferior because you won't get the super huge nuclear machine gun or get to play as a walking statue of liberty that throws fireballs and instead you'll just get the 'vanilla' game.

I hate it. Wait until the game is released.

I trust that's a little bit of hyperbole. It's all dramatized and/or fictionalized to some degree beyond just the obvious Assassin/Templar premise. And it's the subtle tweaks they make to history that are much more important than the more blatant ones.

The same mindset you need to have while playing the alternate-history DLC is the exact same mindset with which you should approach the main game. Never take history-based entertainment at face value.

Sorry, I already bought the season pass for Borderlands II (and after Saint's Row III I was hesitant). I may not even buy Assassin's Creed III. I think I might rather get Dishonored and the XCOM remake instead. Halo 4 is giving out months worth of coop DLC with cut scenes for free.

I want a mission where I have to disguise myself as Polio and cripple FDR and later disguise my self as a stroke and fatally damage his brain. Then I have to go back in time and stop Teddy Roosevelt from killing off all the mummies in his undead hunting safaris. Finally you have to kick the British out of the Suez canal just after WW2 with magic boots made from a bad copy of the ten commandments by masonic robots for Ancient Snake Boss and the proto philosophers. The mission ends with you realizing that there is no animus, your name isn't Desmond, that you are in jail for not paying child support, and that you've spent the last three days really high because you volunteered for marijuana usage experiments being performed by the state you are in to eventually be used as background for a health study.

How for this play at historically? Does this assume the Articles of Confederation never happened, and Washington seized the reins in 1781, instead of retiring? Or did he wait until 1788, when he was president, to assume his despotic role?

My guess is they never get too deep into it. But I hope it's just Washington saying " fuck it! I'm King now." after the Whiskey Rebellion.
