Assassin's Creed: Revelations Brings Ezio, Altair, And Desmond Together

We love ourselves some Assassin's Creed, but a third game with Ezio at the helm?

The whole Internet (yes, all of it) was pretty sure any real details about Assassin's Creed: Revelations would remain under wraps until someone (cough, Game Informer, cough) unveiled a magazine cover. That happened today, with the publication confirming a new Assassin's Creed is coming in November.

As the headline suggests, Assassin's Creed: Revelations brings gaming's favorite Italian ninja, Ezio, to the forefront for yet another adventure, promised to be his last. This time, he's climbing around Constantinople during the Ottoman Empire, while Desmond continues his exploits in the present. Curiously, Revelations will also bring Altair back into the fold, as hinted at by the viral marketing from this week.

Precious few details are available otherwise. Players will have access to a "new weapon and tool that changes the way you'll fight and traverse the world" and the surprisingly great multiplayer will return.

The world was skeptical Ubisoft could deliver another satisfying Assassin's Creed game so quickly when Brotherhood was announced--and, hey, that turned out rather awesome. While yet another tour of Europe with Ezio gives us pause--how else would Ubisoft be able to develop another one so fast?--Brotherhood's quality means I'm hopeful for this one, too. Luckily, we should learn plenty more really soon at E3.

This may be the last time we see Ezio precariously hanging onto a ledge.

Hopefully they can keep it interesting by improving on pretty much everything (again) and adding a bunch of new stuff. My biggest fear is that it'll start feeling kinda same-y.

I gotta say i'm a little disapointed since i assumed from the ending of Brotherhood that the next game would be during the french revelution.  I DO like Ezio as a character so i don't mind seeing him yet again, though one has to consider his current age and if that will effect the gameplay at all.

I love getting a fresh hit of Assassin's Creed every year. Honestly, there hasn't been any decline in quality, the stories have been fantastic thus far. I love that they keep going back to explore Desmond's ancestors, while moving the modern story forward little-by-little. The game everyone thinks they want- this modern-times assassin game- I think THAT would feel more stale.

I'm kind of sick of Ezio after Brotherhood.
I thought Altair was cool in the first game, but his character was always kind of singular, I never felt there was much depth to him, so it's odd to see him come back.

I'm still just waiting for an Assassin's Creed game where you're doing your Assassining in modern day cities as Desmond.  Imagine fighting dudes who have guns and having to sneak your way into Templar military facilities.

of course, it'd break their whole "re-syncing" thing for respawns that they have in the animus.  if Desmond is really in the "real world" would you only have one life to complete the game?

I dunno, just thinking about weird continuity stuff that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I love ezio as much as the next guy but Brotherhood was pushing it.   felt his story was finished in AC2 and Brohood just felt like it didnt add anything worthwhile to his story.

Might skip this and just watch the Desmond bits on youtube unless they shake things up more.

I was kind of bored with italy after AC2 to be honest, glad they're taking it somewhere else. Since this whole assassins business started in the middle east, hopefully well get more info into the source fo the conflict.

The thing about it is, aside from a rocky start with the first game, the AC team hasn't let me down yet.  Ezio is getting a bit worn as a lead, sure, but I'd still like to see the closing of his story (returning to Monterigionni at some point, like Desmond's vision in Brotherhood?) --getting more insight into Altaïr's life is a bonus.

Not sure how someone could play through brotherhood's single player and not want to continue that story. Plus it's Desmond, Ezio, AND Altair! I'm hyped!!

Ezio? That looks like Altair in that shot.

As one dimensional as his character seemed in Assassin's Creed, I still really liked Altair. Even moreso with what we learn about him in AC2 and especially in Bloodlines.

I am totally bored with this series. NOTHING CHANGES. Ezio is an unlikeable and uninteresting character. The opportunity's for different time periods is the entire draw for me, the fact that they seem willing to use the same assets over and over with a little bit of new stuff thrown in is just cheap. Think about an assassins creed in world war 2, rural japan, French revolution, american civil war!!!!

@Branthog:  I think I'll be okay with it not  being a straight up trilogy.  Too often that leads to the main 3, and then others that never feel as good (a la Halo).

What I'm more curious about is if they'll even call the next installment after this "Assassin's Creed 3" or just continue with the subtitles.  I mean one subtitle'd in between a trilogy alright, but two?  If you call the next one 3, you're gonna have to make sure that people who dropped off at 2 can pick it right back up at 3 despite missing two full games.

For me, this news makes up for the ME3 delay. I know I'm part of the problem, but barring portable releases I'll buy any and all games in this series. I can't stand sequel spamming in other game franchises (hypocritical, I know), but as long as AC stays consistently good or better I don't see myself walking away.

Once I saw the picture of Ezio looking a little older in the article, I didn't mind that I will playing as him again.  It's kind of cool to feel like I'm going through the totality of his life (remember when he was born in AC2?).  I feel like if this next game goes up to his death it will be kind of poignant and a little sad.

I have liked Ezio and the time-period Ubisoft has used for the last two games, but I am really ready for something new. Brotherhood was a good but also way too familiar to AC2.

It gets a little respect from me for bothering to tie into the overall AC story at all (instead of soley being a spinoff in the AC universe) but there sure wasn't very much meat to the Brotherhood story, and it's advancement of the AC story arch was  minimal at best. I can only imagine how little Reveltations will add, shoe-horning more uneccesary Ezio story alongside Altair stuff.

I mean we already know Alatiar's story. We know what he did after finding AoE, how he spent his remaining days, and what happened to his armour. Same for Ezio. We saw him grow old. We know where he put the AoE, and know that it remained there for hundreds of years after his death. I like these characters, I really do. But their stories are played out. This time-period is played out.

If Ubi needs to move 6+ million copies of an AC game this fall, and AC3 isn't ready to go, I wish they would at least send us to a new country and play as a new character. It could be standalone, having nothing to do with the main story. Just something new to hold me over until AC3 comes out that isn't AC2 for the third time in just as many years.

I just don't care about Ezio anymore. I mean he's a great character but I have my doubts about his holding up a third game. It'll be interesting to see what kind of role Altair plays, though, and if it's a big one, if Ubisoft has given him more personality since the first game. And if they bring back the multiplayer in a big way... ah what the hell, I'm onboard.

The correct response to this news is Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I've loved all the games so far, but one a year is definitely over exposure and it will get less interesting/exciting as a result. It won't be as bad as CoD where every other developer copies the game as well, but its still the start of waning interest I reckon.

They can't come up with new developments in the game play mechanics every year to make it feel fresh like they did with brotherhood, and if the game play remains too similar year on year then I think they're going to start losing some of the more casual fans.

I'd love to be proven wrong though!

I know this will never happen, but I want AC3 to be all about Desmond meeting Sam Fisher for a co op hunt for the Templars. I want the entire game to play like a crazy-stupid hybrid crossover of AC and Conviction. The entire game would be co-op as Sam teaches Desmond Center Axis Relock and Krav Maga while Desmond teaches Sam's old ass how to free solo buildings and swan dive into dumpsters.

I assumed from the simple fact that he has yet to produce an heir that Ezio would be back for a third game. He sort of needs to create another someone to move down the line and eventually implant Desmond into an unsuspecting uterus.

You know, I'd like to complain about the yearly releases and having Ezio as a playable character yet again, but I'm going to buy this on day one regardless. And I will probably enjoy it a ton and it will end up being my favorite game of the year, just like the last two.

Also, I really like Brotherhood's multiplayer, issues and all. If they can iron out the rough edges in Revelations then the game will be doubly awesome, and I can see myself playing it heavily for months.

I'm still a bit worried that the series will eventually start to stagnate with these continued annual installments, but they haven't let me down yet, so I'm on board for at least another year or two.

Hopefully even though they haven't moved on drastically in the timeline they've changed up the gameplay a-plenty...

To be honest what I really want to do is play as the Russian dude from Assassin's Creed: The Fall. Never read the comic fullya but an Assassin's Creed game, rather than comic, set in late 19th/early 20th Century Eastern Europe would be amazing... or just anywhere else but a little more of a jump forwards in time.

Tired of Ezio and 14th/15th century at this point, probably going to pass on this one. They need to move this series on. While Brotherhood was technically better than 2, I still enjoyed 2 more because it felt fresh. I don't have it in me to do another Brotherhood like game though.

I was really hoping Desmond would soon be taking over as the main protagonist (but would have also settled for another Assassin in a different setting/century than either 2 or Brotherhood). I hope they can complete the story before they burn the series out.

With the very crowded November month we have ahead I would think it wise to maybe release in the first quarter of 2012. I'm always up for a new Asssassin's Creed as long as it can keep me entertained though it's story, characters and action.
