Bad Company 2 Trailer Smokes And Gets Smoked

Look, all I want to know is what does it smell like?

GameTrailers has the first trailer for DICE's upcoming sequel, Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Let's watch and discuss:

That's a very multiplayer-focused trailer, which if you'll allow me to be a Monday Morning Marketing Man for a moment here, isn't at all how I'd position Bad Company 2. Yes, the original game had multiplayer, and it was great multiplayer... but great multiplayer isn't what sets Bad Company apart from the 20 other shooters released every 15 seconds.

The original Bad Company made a name for itself because it had character. Characters, in fact. The members of Bad Company--Sweetwater, Haggard, The Sarge, and Marlowe (that's you)--cracked jokes and talked shit in an impressively non-macho way throughout the course of the game. As a big fan of the first Bad Company, the first thing I want to see out of Bad Company 2 is the cast. Show me B-Company all knotted up in some unwinnable situation, let Haggard say something about monster trucks or about how something "smells very clean," then show a bunch of buildings getting blown apart to remind people that the destructible portions of the first game are still pretty much unmatched. Bang, pow, coming in 2009, fade to black.

Or, I guess, "coming in TBA." No release info has been announced yet. But we do know that it'll be coming to the PC this time, as well as making a return to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Either way, expect to see and hear more on Bad Company 2 soon and expect me to continue to be excited about it.

So no airplanes again?

Nothing made he first BC special in any way, and once more this will be a disappointment I'm sure..no interest whatsoever.

It's the circle of life, I get it.  Of course, the real killer in that clip is cigarettes (haw!)

Cannot wait for more news on this game! Wootness! I hope they make the MP 24v24.

I kept waiting for Haggard to say something TOTALLY inappropriate and it never happened.  FAIL.

Seriously, that trailor was EPIC FAIL! It was like the opening to a James Bond movie.... Come on Bad Company, step it up a knotch.

I really didn't like the multiplayer but the single player was classic.  I was sad to not see Haggard there spouting some random crap or talking about how awesome his monster truck is.

I loved the first game, more B-Company please!

As long as those annoying sprints through open fields getting bombarded by tank shells every ten seconds aren't as prevalent this time around, I'm pumped. They had me excited and tense the first few times they happened but by the end of the game I was cursing up a tsunami.

Battlefield 2 on the PC was great, haven't played it in donkeys, but it was fannytastic.
Still love the Battlefield signature tune!!

Huh, a very serious trailer.

Hopefully it's not a very serious game.

Battlefield and Call of Duty are two completely different game series, you can't draw parallels between the two series.
And Battlefield is a clone of Call of Duty? Wow, that makes a whole lot of sense considering the Battlefield series started an entire year before Call of Duty.

You mean in multiplayer? 'Cause I remember spawning to find myself screwed out of a ride for the zillionth time and attempting to make the indomitable trek to the next objective through completely open fields with no cover. Allow me to simulate:

"Huff, huff, hu-GRAAAGGGK!"
"Got another runner. Poor bastard." Sniper reloads. I throw the controller at my TV.

Looking forward to this game

Yeah, and ontop of that, Battlefield got into the modern era in 2005, long before COD.  I can't believe anyone would try and say battlefield is a call of duty clone.

That's obviously not what he meant.  He's saying the trailer looked to him more like a game that desperately wants to be Call of Duty than a game that utilizes the character and humor of the first Bad Company that (I'm assuming) he likes.  Don't be a jerk.

Oh, sorry, I didn't see it like that. I didn't mean to come off as a jerk, I kind of jumped to conclusions too quickly.

S'all good man, we all make mistakes.  Sorry if I jumped to conclusions too. :D

Blood?  Are they putting blood in the game?

Here's the only problem that I had with Bad Company that I hope is fixed:  the rating.  It was T for Teen, and yet the single and multiplayer were laced with "shit" being said every 10 seconds.  Meanwhile, a game like Halo doesn't drop profanity that often at all, but because of the virtual blood, it's rated M for Mature.  I don't understand how that works, but then again, I don't work at the ESRB.  I just think it's quite hypocritical and really shows the faults of the ratings system.

Outside of that, the game was fucking incredible.  I was on the nay-sayer train for a while, as the demo left me less than impressed.  Then, I ended up dumping plenty of time into it for Rank 25, as well as completing the single player campaign.  It was a thoroughly impressive console entry for the Battlefield franchise, and it did enough to both differ itself from the PC versions and keep enough elements so those familiar with BF wouldn't be complete strangers in it.

With the trailer having these little blood splatters, it would mean this could be the first time that blood is found in the Battlefield franchise, which seems a bit odd...but when you are competing against games like Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Halo for multiplayer superiority numbers...it would seem like it's time for them to move in that direction.  I just don't know if I agree with it...but then again, I didn't really agree with it when Call of Duty 4 ended up being the first Mature CoD...and then I ended up loving it...

...and now hate it.  =  /

Hehe, nice trailer.

Bad Company rocked! I put way more time into it than COD4. The multiplayer was just more fun, and not nearly as break-your-balls hard as COD4.

rated m?

Trailer is cool but it needs more Haggard.

Sweetwater is too busy screwing miss July to be on this trailer. Don't worry, I'm sure EA is going to keep the original cast, maybe add even more people. I just hope they smell clean.

Your article made me want to grab a copy of the original Bad Company.  I guess I missed what the fuss was all about.

Looks like DICE learned their lesson with Mirror's Edge... Why try something new when you can keep going back to the Battlefield 19xx / 2 model? If you showed this to me and I hadn't heard of the original, it would definitely get a 'meh'.
On a separately note, did BF:BC sell that well? It sorta fell off my radar once the whole paid-weapons DLC shit storm passed.

Am I the only one to love Bad Company for its AMAZING sound-design..? Having been in the army, I find myself disapointed by games falling through on realism (sometimes..). But I think Bad Company hasn't been recognized enough for the great sound-design, it sort of comes in second to visuals for most, I guess...

But..... I HATE games that feel the need to use mirrored weapon-models (Far Cry 2 almost makes me cry) so, Bad Company sort of shits me on that front, and also the fact that eventhough you reload a weapon with a round in the chamber the player cocks the weapon, and the models show rounds left in the magazine even if you're out. Modern Warfare is awesome at this. Watch and learn developers-... Hope they sort it out for the second installment!

I'm excited. Bad Company is one of my favorite of last year. THERES GOLD IN THEM THERE HILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually think it's a pretty awesome trailer. Kind of arty. Sure, no gameplay, but it's a Battlefield-Game, so you kind of know what mechanics are waiting for you.
