Batman: Arkham Asylum Has Been Delayed

Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment can today confirm that Batman: Arkham Asylum will be released at the end of summer 2009. This additional time will allow us to ensure Batman: Arkham Asylum is of the highest quality for gamers.

When contacted on whether or not the date was moving, neither Eidos Interactive nor Warner Bros. were willing to comment on the possibility of a delay. When asked if the June 23 release date was still valid, a Warner Bros. representative said, “Sorry - no comment.”

If this is true, there has to be a justified reason for this. I mean, it's really close.

They probably didn't expect it to get the attention it has, now that they realize there is some coin to be made on this they probably want to push it back for finacial reasons.  I'm not possitive on that, but the game looks pretty done to me I couldn't imagine them suddenly needing another four months.  I'm sure the developers will take advantage of it either way and polish up the game.

That said, if more time means they can make the game more awesome, I'm all for it.

Apparently punctuality is Batman's only weakness...

Why couldn't they just admit it was delayed when asked to comment? What do they gain by waiting a few hours to announce what everyone already knows?

I hope this doesn't end up as a holiday release.

I'd rather they take as much time as they can to perfect the game then to hurry up and rush and then release patches later. Good move...

2 words here:  Christmas Holiday.  Sure any developer can use the time to tweak out the bugs in a game, but there's the 2nd bonus, getting a Batman game for little Johnny for Christmas.  Well, my 360 is red-ringed, so I can wait anyway.

I don't get it, the video's they've been releasing have been looking spectacular. 

I bet this won't be released until Q4 like most games.

I would be kind of bummed out if it gets delayed, but if the delay means it becomes even MORE amazing, then that's fine.  I can wait.

I guess all that talk about publishers learning not to release every game in the holiday season was just b.s.

i was getting kinda worried with batman, blazblue and kof coming out in 1 week intervals.  at least this gives me time to breathe.

Goddammit! And what the hell does 'end of summer' mean exactly? Does that mean 2010? Are you kidding me?

It needed the delay from what I saw of the game.  It looked too generic and not really anything different than the other crappy Batman games.  Giving it a style more akin to the comics is a good idea, but it doesn't automatically make it a good game.

And while I love the vocal cast from BTAS, having them in a game where the visuals are so far from that style actually works against it.  I'd rather have the game be based on that and be cel shaded, or just use other actors.

Starcraft Ghost? The game's already playable and was less than 2 months from release.

I hope they use the opportunity to vary the levels (or "rooms," anyway). That really seemed like the possible weak point of the game from what I could tell. All the footage I've seen has shown the same basic concept. It would be nice if they put in a couple memorable gimmicks.

People should remember though that this delay is only giving them 2-3 more months. It's not like they can blow the thing up and start over.

A bad game is bad forever, a delayed game is eventually good.

i guess they realized they've gone and made the game look a little too promising for its own sake.

Hope I don't have to rush the game before school starts up again.

As long as the game is better because of it, this news really doesn't upset me. My June was getting a little crowded anyway.

I already knew it was going to be a holiday thing...or maybe I just assumed that without knowing the actual date they had scheduled.  Well whatever the case, I guess that's what's happening
