Depends on the game and the player. I prefer consoles for just about everything. I only game on my PC for TF2 and The Witcher, really.

I certainly didn't think so. Besides, that would be silly and unnecessary . Also, I think @Xingwa was the one wondering about stats carrying over from the upcoming beta to full retail release. I, for one, would not expect such things.

I love how people are on here complaining about a free beta of the game. Seriously people, will nothing make you happy? So what if you got to play the Alpha. A lot of us didn't so we really don't care if you don't like that it's the same level. Get over yourselves. There are lots of us that are looking forward to a chance to play the multiplayer and don't need your idiotic bitching for nothing.

According to EA Australia's twitter, early access for those of us eligible will be live at 10pm Australian Eastern time, which translates to 8am US east coast time. Also, the open beta will be a 2.6GB download.

@NcJoker: I know right, Im not buying any EA games until they make products that are compatible with my steel battalion controller.

Will the rank & unlocks i gain in open beta pass on to the final version?

Don't waste your money buying this anywhere near launch day. The last battlefield (the brothers one) still hasn't fixed their game to allow you to properly use a joystick to fly (something which worked perfectly in Battlefield 2). Don't support publishers like EA who release a game before it is ready

Dunno what the deal is, I've been using ORIGIN since the bf3 alpha and its shaping up to be quite nice really, I really like the ingame UI in comparison to steam and ORIGIN lets me fucking choose where I want to install my god damned games! (im lookin at chu steam)

On top of this i found something out, If you have a game on steam that is ea you can possibly activate it on your origin to and you wont need to re-download it, It will run the already installed copy that's in your steam folder ( I have recently been doing this with my digital copys of both Crysis 2 and Shift 2) .

The only thing right now about origin that doesn't compare but could work out in future is the current deals, and of course its current selection since its pretty much an EA only platform.

I don't mind having more then one program because I don't find it bothersome at all to log in else where to get my fix as long as what I'm using is not broken I'm totally cool with it.

What are your specs? I can give you a healthy guestimate.

For 1080p gaming with high settings and 45-60fps, you're gonna want a GTX570 or a ATI 6950, a good CPU (Sandy Bridge i7 or good Phenom II), and at least 4GB of RAM.

Unfortunately for me, I'm gonna be gaming at 2560x1440, so my GTX570 is gonna be sweating a lot for this game. I can't wait to see how it compares to my time with the Alpha.

@Rydemption: Ah that's cool. I'm pretty new to the whole BF deal...I've only really played BFBC2 on Xbox, but I'm really enjoying that. It took some patience to get into after being a COD player for so long, but I can't go back!

What? Last I heard 3D spotting has just been changed so you only see 3D spot markers, if you've got direct LoS (Line of Sight). Foiliage counts as breaking LoS too. Only vehicles get a constant 3D spot regardless of LoS.

Either I'm out of the loop (I doubt it) or you got your facts all wrong.

If the enemy goes behind LoS, the 3D marker will linger for a bit where he was last seen, and then disappear. I didn't hear anything about vehicle spotting being any different.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I'm really liking gears 3 but my mind is on this game.

I preordered Battlefield 3 after having been a Call of Duty fan for so long, but being completely frustrated with the amount of hacking and spawn deaths I had experienced. I understand that any game could get hacked up, but the utter failure of Activision Beta testing pretty much sealed the deal, I was going to get both BF3 and MW3, but I'm going to wait on the MW3 before I'm down $60 on a broken game.

It'll be fun to play, but I don't really feel like we'll fix anything serious as "beta testers." If anything, we're giving feedback on weapon balance, that they'll patch day one or something.

@laserbolts It's called an analogy genius. Obviously an online store is different from a brick and mortar place. It's about not having everything under one roof. I don't want to have 6 different publisher specific programs or websites to manage my games. I want everything on steam. I want to shift+tab. I want steam guard, automatic updates, cross game trading and all the conveniences I'm used to. It's really petty of EA to not put their products on steam as well as origin. You can buy valve games on origin. Why not the other way around? This is the first step to activision and ubisoft making their own half-assed attempts at a download service.

I really don't know what all the steam winging is about either..

Plus points of steam: achievements? Who the fuck cares. Overlay, you can use the overlay on non steam games. Cloud: Only useful for single player games because most online games track you via login.

Disadvantages: Games are always like 30% more expensive and you get no box or manual and incur no delivery costs, how is that justified?

Also, If steam disappears from existence in the future, which may seem oh so unlikely now, but really you'd have said that about a lot of services that no longer exist, a few years can make a huge difference, then what? all your games are completely in limbo and you just lose them all more than likely. I'd rather have a CD and a serial. Even if i just have the serial, i can always find a way to download the game anyway.

The only major plus point for steam is that i can install games from the web so if i don't have the disc handy that's giid, and that it's probably easier to play with my steam friends.
