Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 PSN Requires An Internet Connection

Good thing you used one to download it, right?

Consider the following a PSA of sorts: The PSN version of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is using a form of DRM that requires an Internet connection when it boots. So, if your PS3 can’t talk to the cloud upon start-up, you won’t be able to play the game, despite the total absence of online functionality aside from basic leaderboards stuff (via TheSixthAxis).

Sound familiar? It should, for the Capcom devout out there. Final Fight: Double Impact had the exact same DRM, though the bugbear was that the publisher didn’t make it clear upfront that the game was protected. This time around, Capcom makes a note in the PSN Store description stating that you have to “log-in to the PSN each time to play the game.”

The Xbox Live Arcade version of Rearmed doesn’t have this kind of DRM, which probably says something about how many people are still sharing their PSN games through bogus profiles. I'll update if Capcom goes on record with a response as to why the game is protected as it is, or addresses some of the outcry from BC fans who aren't digging this form of rather... restrictive protection.
