Borderlands 2's Mechromancer Class Revealed at PAX

Gearbox panels at the various PAX conferences each year are usually good for at least one or two good bits of useful new information and/or delightful fan service. At last year's PAX Prime, it was when Randy Pitchford went full Oprah and gave everyone in the audience a free code good for one copy of Borderlands 2 upon its release. At this year's PAX East, the Borderlands 2 crew showed off a new character class that will come following the game's launch.

Dubbed the Mechromancer, this female character is essentially a cyborg. The full-breadth of her human/machine hybrid abilities aren't yet known, but it was stated that she would be able to control a large robot named D374-TP (which translates to "Deathtrap").

This new class won't be day one DLC. In fact, it hasn't even been fully developed yet. Gearbox showed off some concept art for the character, but beyond that wouldn't commit to a specific release day or price beyond "post-launch" and "comparable" to other, similar DLC.

I am really liking the classes. I hope what Jeff was saying is true about the boss fights. The only one I found interesting was General Knoxx and even that one is pretty mediocre.

I really want to play that.

It sounds neat and there isn't any evidence that she's been stripped out of the game. I'm worried about how this class will compare against the soldier. I hope it won't make him obsolete.

Interesting but I'm playing the Siren class as it's the most fun imo.

Not crazy about those pig tails, but hey, the class sounds pretty cool.

How long have games cost more than $60? We might as well start paying $90 bucks for new releases with unlimited support since I'm gonna get the DLC later like a sucker anyway. We'll probably be paying $90 a game when the next generation hits.

Adding new classes as cheap DLC would actually be compelling given how you can always have more and more vault hunters. That and having a large character customisation system in place, huge choice of looks and powers.

Not sure how big the story is this time when it comes to characters personally, but I'd love it if the added her and gave her her own reason to do the stuff.
Besides, just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier after the Gunzerker and the ninja they come up with a Mechromancer.

She actually looks pretty neat. I wasn't hugely interested in Borderlands 1, but 2 keeps catching my eye more and more lately.

That is what I immediately thought when I first read the name. I know what they are riffing on necromancer, but they really need to rethink the name.

Mechromancer is probably the best class name for a sci-fi RPG I've ever heard. I really wish this was coming out on launch day.

Too bad it's going to be DLC, because that would have been the class I played.

I'd love it if this were free DLC... but I'd love it even more if they made a whole Mechromancer-themed quest line, complete with new areas and enemies. I'd gladly pay five or ten bucks extra for that.

You could enable third person in original Borderlands with some .ini tweaks. And later with a simple fanmade launcher.

I mean for console players ;)

Not a problem for me since there's a 100% chance that I'll be preordering this game (I played the SHIT out of Borderlands), but I'll probably be playing a Siren for the majority of Borderlands 2 (as I did for Borderlands 1).

I don't really know a lot about Borderlands, but "Mechromancer" is a pretty great name for a thing.

Mechromancer? Is this class based off of the game Thousand Arms except with mechs? If so, this game is gonna be awesome.

Oh wow that looks pretty cool. I seriously cannot wait to get my hands on this game. Borderlands 1 was fantastic aside from it's problems. I really hope they give the PC version a little more attention than last time.
