Brace Yourself: Activision Will Announce the Next Call of Duty on May 1

Those watching the NBA playoffs will have the added bonus of discovering Call of Duty's latest context for shooting guns at people.

Someone needs to just get this partnership over the hump and create a game featuring basketball players shooting each other in the face. I call dibs on Metta World Peace.

I don't want to blow anybody's mind right now, but it appears as though Activision is, in fact, working on a new Call of Duty game. Not only that, the publisher plans to announce it. Soon.

Activision is currently teasing a May 1 reveal for whatever it plans on calling the expected new entry in the Call of Duty franchise. As this year's title falls on the portion of the bi-yearly release cycle assigned to developer Treyarch, the current smart money seems to be a direct sequel to the developer's insanely successful 2010 title, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Whatever it ends up being, we'll all find out about it together on May 1--provided, of course, that we're all watching the NBA playoffs on TNT, as that is where the reveal will appear. That is, of course, provided Activision is able to keep stuff under wraps until then. We all remember what happened last year, don't we?

I miss the days when you'd have at least a two year development cycle with absolutely no related release. There's something to be said for building some anticipation and being able to clearly see improvements across the board between releases. As it is now its just iteration after iteration. I'm part of the guilty part that's bought every CoD, but MW3 was my last until next gen. Just really getting burnt out which is actually pretty clear when you look at my achievements for each CoD as they've been trailing away with each release. Hell, I couldn't even get past 30 mins of MW3...still played a bunch of MP though.

Regardless, any Duty gamer like myself likely has several titles and a crapton of map packs for each of them so we should have plenty to play through. Something has to stop this yearly serialization of quality titles...I fear that Halo will go down this same path now as well which is really blows.

I wish people would stop hating Activision.

You are too blame. Overpriced DLC, overpriced game (£10 more than the average pc game), subscription service. Sequel 942. Lack of innovation. The reasons they exist is because people are happy to accept it.

I can almost guarantee a subscription service of some kind. Seeing how well Elite went over with the COD players you will see it attached to this next game. Dolphin diving and no scoping have turned me off from MW3. I like to play with my friends and it's almost to the point where I ignore every invite to play it.

I'm sure I'll Gamefly whatever new game it is but I really disliked the structure of having to buy every weapon, skin and unlockables in BlOps. If they do it again I'll end up skipping it altogether.

Wouldn't it be cool if it were Call of Gandhi and instead of solving conflicts with guns and explosives, you solve problems with peaceful protest and sacrifice?

Lol you should play Civilization because Gandhi is an asshole in those games.

Anyways, a lot of these comments are the usual non COD player smart ass remarks, at least be creative. With that said, I'm looking forward to the next COD, but in the meantime will be playing MW3 because it like all other COD games are still fun to me.

It's pretty ironic that you're asking for creativity while defending call of duty.

Well let's see if Treyarch has anything new in store. (Which is highly unlikely)

Not gonna lie...really pumped about this. I can't help it, I love the CoD series. Some of my favorite campaigns around.

Well there's one good thing about the highly anticipated, extremely quick release of the new CoD...this thread.
