Brace Yourself: Activision Will Announce the Next Call of Duty on May 1

I don't want to blow anybody's mind right now, but it appears as though Activision is, in fact, working on a new Call of Duty game. Not only that, the publisher plans to announce it. Soon.

Activision is currently teasing a May 1 reveal for whatever it plans on calling the expected new entry in the Call of Duty franchise. As this year's title falls on the portion of the bi-yearly release cycle assigned to developer Treyarch, the current smart money seems to be a direct sequel to the developer's insanely successful 2010 title, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Whatever it ends up being, we'll all find out about it together on May 1--provided, of course, that we're all watching the NBA playoffs on TNT, as that is where the reveal will appear. That is, of course, provided Activision is able to keep stuff under wraps until then. We all remember what happened last year, don't we?

I also want to point out that I haven't been excited about a Call Of Duty game for several years. They milked that franchise dry a long time ago.

So remember when everyone was sick of WW2 shooters and then COD4 came out. Why can't that happen again.

That is so last year, now we hate Bioware and EA.

Hoping for a big setting revamp; I still enjoyed Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3, but I don't know how adamant I'll be about picking this up straight away if it's modern military again. I'd say four modern military games was one too many for the franchise already, so a fifth one would really test my interest.

I'm still kinda curious to see what the single-player is like.

The whole numbers thing in Blops was pretty neat.

Bi-annually means twice a year, surely so does bi-yearly? Bi-annual = twice annual. Meh, whatever.

Ehh if it's more Black Ops and less Modern Warfare 3, I'll play it.

If they decide to make a Star Wars Battlefront type CoD I would be totally down for that. To bad they aren't though. Last CoD game I purchased was MW2. Ever since then it's been super boring to me.

Hopefully this is the year where user apathy sets in.

I hope it's not just Black Ops 2, that'd really just take the wind out of my sails. Black Ops is fine and all that, but it's not such a deal that it'd need it's own announcement date, also that'd be an awful name.

A giant 'who cares', but yeah Black Ops 2, excitement (!)

If it's sci fi then I might be interested. If it uses modern or WW2 guns then I couldn't care less.

I think WWII is the only way I'd play it. I've already skipped the last two, and black ops two is a definitive no from me.

It took me about 90 seconds of confusion to figure out that "TNT" was not Thursday Night Throwdown. >.>

And not a single fuck will be given that day... and same goes with game... CoD 1/2 and MW1 were the only CoD games that were good. Deal with it.

This honestly does have my interest piqued a tiny bit, Black Ops was the only campaign that I genuinely enjoyed, so I'd be pleased with a bit more of that, not enough to buy but I'd definitely give it a rent.

I hope you get to shoot people in a semi-realistic setting and it has online multiplayer.

What? Basketball Playoffs on TNT? You mean NBA Jam is going to be a TNT on May 1st again? But May 1st is a Tuesday not a Thursday... And why would they announce a game on a livestream?

So, this going to be World at War 2, right?

Man, a curveball like this might prompt EA to announce something completely insane and out of left field like Madden 13. Good on 'em though for keeping things fresh and not shelling out bullshit year after year like Valve or Blizzard.
