Buy DeathSpank: Thongs Of Virtue Now And Get Free DLC

This is one way to keep you from seeing a review before you buy.

If you're already set on purchasing the recently released DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, it'd be wise to go ahead and spend your cash now instead of waiting until later. Why? Because EA and game creator Hothead Games are offering two bits of free downloadable content exclusively to launch week purchasers of the downloadable PSN and XBLA game.

Don't expect these to be stunning, time-adding additions, though. The first bit of content is an optional dungeon called, simply, "Snowy Mountain Dungeon." The other DLC is a more non-traditional piece of content dubbed "Sidekick Tankko," which adds an ogre sidekick for use with the game's co-op mode.

The PSN version of the Thongs of Virtue download, during its launch week promotional period (September 20-27), will already incorporate the promotional DLC. So, in other words, there'll be no need to dig around on the PS Store to find the free content. XBLA owners of Thongs of Virtue, however, will need to scour XBLM to find both starting today (September 22) until September 28.

No Caption Provided

After these periods, the free downloads will become paid downloads. Snowy Mountain Dungeon will be priced at 240 Microsoft Bucks or $2.99 on PSN, according to a press release, while "Sidekick Tankko" will sit at a hefty 80 Microsoft Banana Dollars or $0.99 on PSN.

In other news, those chickens in that above picture are wearing hats. I'm so buying this game.

Well, if you're thinking about getting this on the 360, there's nothing stopping you from downloading the DLC now, and buying the game whenever you feel like it.  I just got the addons and hadn't even downloaded the trial yet (though I did after).

The first one was good, and I do feel like I want to play this, but just not right now.  Need another MS points sale or something first.

First game was a huge misfire; zero interest any more Deathspank.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Though I appreciate the game's humor somewhat, the half-assed combat does it for me. Also, with game's shortish length, the leveling has a sense of meaningless to it; If I know I got a long road ahead (say, Fallout 3 and The Witcher) I feel I need to prepare with grinding, but with Deathspank I just wanted to blaze through it and felt frustrated when I needed more exp to progress.

C'mon Ron, you can do better.

Really liked the deadpan humour in the first one, I think im gonna pick this up. Also, the free DLC isn't bad incentive.

Why think?   Take this simple quiz to find out if you should get it.

Did you play the first one?
If so, did you like the first one?
If you didn't play the first one, does the concept of Diablo turned into a hack and slash instead of a point and click mashed up with a crap load of varied humor of the Maniac Mansion / Monkey Island variety fill you with joy and wonderment?

If you answered yes to any of these, get it.

A little preorder DLC is no where near as shady as those $200 preorder-only STO lifetime subscriptions.  Especially with how that game turned out.

The sub-headline makes no sense.  Of course there will be reviews up during the week of release.  That said, I still feel like there should be a bundle deal for both games.

First deathspanks writing/voice acting was so bad I played only with mute+ podcast and mashed through half the shitty text.  This is shady as hell as well, no chance of a sale.  Doesn't help that the combat wasn't even good either.

Played the demo of the first game, and the demo was about as much as I needed to play.

Trying to lure people into buying a mediocre sequel to a mediocre game by giving them mediocre DLC free for the first week (I just love it when DLC comes out at the same time as the game, as opposed to just being included in the game), dirtbag marketing for companies that know they're selling a big pile of Tauntaun innards.

I quite enjoyed the first game, but I doubt I'll be picking this up unless the reviews are absolutely stellar. I've come to this decision because even though I found the game pretty funny in most spots, the name Deathspank is not funny, nor is the constant mentioning of thongs. Thongs haven't been funny since 1999, and out of pure principle I won't buy a game trying to make thongs a joke in the effing title unless the game turns out to be absolutely perfect.

Might be worth noting that I have already downloaded this content on the Xbox WITHOUT buying the game. Maybe that's an error, which will go away soon, or just a European thing, but it may be worth checking out if you want the content and want to wait for a review, or whatever...

Not sure if I'm terribly interested in playing the sequel so I may give this a miss. The first game was enjoyable but I didn't find either the gameplay or story to be compelling enough to want more.
