Capcom Drops Resident Evil: Revelations Price By $10

Resident Evil's debut on 3DS goes from $49.99 to $39.99.

No Caption Provided

If the mostly positive talk (we'll have a Quick Look up tomorrow) about Resident Evil: Revelations has you considering the series’ debut on 3DS but price is an obstacle, maybe Capcom has worked out a solution.

The company announced this afternoon that Resident Evil: Revelations retail price would be dropping from $49.99, which is more expensive than most games you’d regularly buy for a 3DS, to $39.99--a $10 cut.

“Since the announcement of the $49.99 price point, we've spent weeks looking for a way to bring your cost down to standard 3DS pricing,” said community manager Bret Elston. “Today we can finally confirm we were successful in this, and hope the reduced price encourages even more people to check out this strong entry in the Resident Evil canon.”

It’s unclear what hurdles Capcom lept over in order to bring the price down $10, but for the price sensitive consumer, it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day, the next Resident Evil is cheaper to buy on February 7.

Did anyone point out their reason for the $50 price point in the first place? The game uses like a special 4 gig cart or whatever, different from the normal 3DS game. I am curious what they had to do to lower the price point.

Every time I read an article like this it feels like America is kicking me in the balls. Especially when some of you have the gall to complain about a $50 3DS game to begin with. Fucking Australia...

Ignoring Mercenaries 3D exists is definitely the right move.

on topic: I'd be interested to find out how they made the price work. Are they taking a loss? Was the initial $10 bumb up artificial or is a 4GB cart really that much more expensive to produce/license? Maybe sometime after launch a "behind the scenes" story could bring light into this.

There's something crazy about being a Resident Evil fan that you must play everything! I'm considering getting a 3DS just so I don't miss this one, will need new hardware first though.

There you go Capcom. Now please don't make Ultra Street Fighter X Tekken, and get Mega Man Legends 3 back in development and we should be good.

Capcom can only make ONE game with the Tekken name. So that means no Ultra/Super versions.

You mean like how it cost too much to license the Marvel stuff so that they couldn't release another MvC3 game? Oh wait.

I think even Ono said all updates were going to be DLC.

I believe he explicitly stated that there will only be one disc released, and yeah, all updates will be DLC.

And I believe that Ono stated that there wouldn't be a title update to SFIV. Capcom has lied too many times to their fans that i don't believe what Capcom says for one minute.
Wasn't that a PR guy?

"Resident Evil's debut on 3DS goes from $49.99 to $39.99."

and "If the mostly positive talk (we'll have a Quick Look up tomorrow) about Resident Evil: Revelations has you considering the series’ debut on 3DS but price is an obstacle, maybe Capcom has worked out a solution."

The news guy on the site publishes easy to check errors.

Giantbomb had a quick look of Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D.....That was a Resident Evil game on 3ds.

A few people have pointed out it isn't the debut on the system.

How can one criticize a group for not improving a formula close enough to your undefined expectations to satisfy you, but then not even write correct facts in your news articles. Most games aren't criticized for simply doing the job right or wrong (skyrim would have been reviewed horribly) it goes into subjective territory instead.

It seems like the same reason everyone tolerates skyrim is the same rationalization why we should read articles with factual errors and pretend like it isn't skewing our standards.

Been reading your stuff since EGM and 1up and I'm not trying to rip on you as much as just pointing out an observation that all game journalists seem to do. You've always provided good content, but if you want to rip on someone for something that I don't think is an issue, I'm gonna rip on you for something you don't seem to think is an issue (factual errors in articles, because I think having factual errors in a professional journalist's articles is an issue of quality)

just like you rip on them because you want them to do better next time, I want you to do better next time and write an article without easy factual errors :D

I'm happy to see it in the normal price range for those interested in the game. I ring Driadon's sentiments: the demo didn't sell me.

I'm fairly certain the reason this is such a big deal is because Nintendo has said in the past that games coming on 4GB carts will cost $10 more. I'm not sure that original decision was Capcom's own decision necessarily. Which is why it's cool they got it to normal price - hopefully that sets a precedent for more 4GB games to be cheaper.

I really like the Phoenix Wright games but I never bought UMvC3, and they should have localized the second Edgeworth game. And then there's the Mega Man stuff... ><

I was never going to buy it because portables don't do it for me, but I also thought that line was a little melodramatic

@Xeirus: you added nothing by giving me shit for saying an observation on being professional. Before 1up went to shit they constantly published errors, even simple spelling and grammar. Pointing out their lack of professionalism in the comments meant you were the subject of trolls who would rip on you for being a grammar nazi or w/e. The number of trolls on 1up literally forced many to just stop caring about the community and closed their accounts, went from checking the site daily to weekly to almost never. You are no different here, and I would appreciate GiantBomb not to become negative trollery. I observed something, I didn't tell Patrick something along the lines of his words are meaningless, you said something like that to me. So the rules are I observe and you get to rip on someone for saying some information. Sounds like my favorite comedy film.

Telling a professional they are clearly doing something that a handfull of commenters have shown better knowledge of is an observation, has nothing to do with my emotions. The only emotional aspect is sadness because the reality is this is one of the best places to get game news and find a gamer community, but they still won't take their much respected highly privledged job seriously (errors can be checked with GB's wiki), and there will always be negative energy in the world like commenters that will waste the space of "quoting" instead of replying and trolling and all that other annoying stuff.

I appreciate your 2 cents, but good job disregarding it all in true "Idiocracy" fashion.

Again a wall of text no one cares to read. It's hilarious how bent out of shape people get over the smallest things.

In all seriousness though, you -will- have a heart attack going on like that. I'm sorry I'm not bright enough to grasp your high concepts though.

I didn't have anything good to say, so I shouldn't have said it, but this is a service and they weren't doing their job correctly. It deserves recognition if you actually have respect for the service you are using and want it to become better over time. Your replies to my observation didn't add anything so they seem pointless. But you pay money to support the site, so maybe I should listen to you.

Trying to call me out and put me down simply because I tried to explain WHY I thought it was wrong to be so unprofessional is just rude. At least I didn't say "rofl it isnt the debut dumbass", I explained it the way I wanted to.

If someone is trying to be honest, they always deserve respect, even if I disagree with someone if I see they tried to think of every side and believe in what they say I have to respect that. You are not giving me that simple respect.

I'm not going to stop wanting things to get better, because some paying members are fine with the continuation of errors, and alienating those who point them out.

and dude who did research "evaluating my behaviour pattern" GTFO thats ridiculous like I'm writing this while laughing and you probably think I'm pissed off so just don't bother reading anything I say, you can't read tone in a comment thats why I try to write literally.

a professional makes an error no professional would ever do. The comments are used for a comment that is an observation about how no professional would do that if they cared about their work. Other people take it upon themselves to disregard observation, take it personally and emotionally and then tell me that I'm getting worked up.

I'm saying something, then you react to my words and posting a few more that basically disregards all the words I said, bringing up the question why my words ever provoked you to say such a pointless remark as a reaction.

This is coming from 2 people that both pay for this site to keep going.

Seems like you are completely fine with reading articles with lies in them.

Giantbomb is clearly turning into 1up if the staff publish mistakes and the community doesn't care / will get more mad at the guy asking for higher quality (much like reviewers unapologetically do to developers).

If a staff member reads this please tune in.

Even though I don't pay money to support the site, its these exact reasons ontop of each other that are the reason. Why would I pay for factual errors (a "dont give a fuck" attitude could be the same line of thinking that wanted to put the "happy hour" behind a paywall because it was worth it), and people that give others shit because they are saying observations not based around opinionated thoughts?

Everyone on GiantBomb hates Minecraft, but the GB/WM Minecraft server is the most friendly place around, everyone there is totally friendly, forgiving and I've learnt a lof and had some interesting conversations with people on that server.

Basically, its sad to see the general comments on any article turn into what 1up has become, even worse members that help keep the site running don't show concern of the quality or correctness over someone calling it out when they see it as part of a pattern.

This won't be like 1up where I stopped caring and deleted my account. I just won't care to comment on things as pointless as this, and will sit back and watch the quality slowly slip, and never say anything when I see an error. Thats how things get better, by non collaboration and non communication (kidding). Seems to be thats how these paying members want it to be, and since they are asking and they keep the site running I guess I have to listen to them. Go ahead make as many mistakes as you want.

oh wait i'll summarize that for you blah blah blah derp derp derp

It has more to do with the part where Mercenaries is an arcade spin-off, not the actual debut of the series on the 3DS. I'm sure Capcom would put it that way as well. Everyone sort of knows this, so it's therefore not a big deal. That's the probable reason of that supposed mistake.

You could argue that because it has "resident evil" in the title I'm objectively incorrect.

This is fabulous! Now come February 7th we'll have a bunch of slightly happier nerds who have more money in their pocket, and possibly a renewed or restored faith in the Resident Evil series! It may only be marginal, but margins are bettering than absolutely nothing, am I correct? Honestly, this game sounds kinda cool.

@jasondesante: The ability to give and receive constructive criticism is becoming a lost art. I think your point was valid even if there's an argument to support on both sides (whether it was the debut or not).

Granted it takes a lot of time and effort to understand the intent behind a bit of art or craft (like a game or an article) but it's worth it. It's rewarding intellectually to slice things apart and look at them critically. It shows generosity to share criticisms in order to try and improve something you care about.

Edit: not trying to imply people that just go in and enjoy something or let things slide are lazy or stupid, but when someone takes the time to point out a correction or improvement, maybe don't be so quick to cut them down because you don't agree.

I'll pick it up when it's around $25, $40 is still to much for a handheld game IMO, especially if I want to pick up the 2nd analog stick accessory, which will tack on another $20.

I've never paid $40 for a handheld game and I don't plan on it. In fact, I bought very few DS games for $35 in the first place...
