Just before Comic-Con, Microsoft and Epic Games unveiled a hip contest that gives fans a vote in the matter of whether a new Carmine will survive his grand Gears 3 adventure. Two different Carmines have bit the dust in the previous Gears releases.
A digital t-shirt purchase on the avatar marketplace is the only way to decide his fate. Those who want Carmine to eat it need to buy a cute "Carmine Must Die" shirt. Those who want him to live, which is the more popular of the two right now, need to buy a subdued "Save Carmine" shirt before the campaign closes on September 2, 2010.
On the official Gears 3 website, Microsoft is calling the race "close," meaning it's still possible to get Carmine's head knocked in proper-like. Regardless of where we fall on the Carmine life/death thing, though, it's important to remember that all the proceeds of this contest will be going to Child's Play, a neat charity that gives sick kids game-related stuff. Who knew a character's death could be so beneficial?
i want him to die... die a brutally awesome death of gore and carnage, but he will be all kicking ass before hand so you wont expect it . can you say dream come true?
I hope they don't unveil the scores. I want to find out in the game. In any case I've totally voted for Carmine to survive. It's like Saving Private Ryan, everyone will die to make sure this one makes it through ;P. Even though I don't think he is the final Carmine. Probably one more.

Well I did not know how the race was going, so yeah it is news to me and on a side note it highlights the charity. That is generally what news is, informing people of current affairs / events that they are unaware of. Why don't you RSS feed in the future? You can bypass what you don't deem news. "
And you still don't really know how the race is going. All you've gotten was "Close", I know they say he's going to live, but I guess they'd make a comment either way to boost sales.

Well I'm kinda interested in how this will turn out and its a good follow up to Brads previous article. Besides if this reminds more people to by a shirt and Child's Play gets a few more bucks that can't be bad right? "
I'm interested in finding out myself, seeing as it's one of the few series of games I've actually played all the way through, but it's more the point, all this tell us is maybe he will, maybe he won't, but as I posted above.
Both of you raise a fair point on the charity front though, and I'll concede to that. And retract my previous post.
Carmine is the real hero, he should die but only after doing something amazingly heroic and saving the day for everyone else involved. If he dies a pointless death like the other ones, than forget it, he can live.

Nah. I would assume that this contest decides between two cutscenes that are not all that different from another. Worst case scenario: Same cutscene / scenario with dialogue change only. "
Haha, that just made me think of a scene depicting the most gruesome disembowelment of Carmine yet, but since he was voted to live Marcus just implies "Eh, I'm sure he'll be fine."
I think Carmine should survive deadly situations throughout the game and then, after the credits, he should be brutally murdered Final Destination style.
When Carine dies in Gears 2 or when we first meet him he mentions that he has two brothers still living, so maybe they could kill him and let him live!! Twins! :P

He needs to die, just like every other gears game its like the running joke. Only difference this time is that it needs to be more of an epic thing. He dies saving someone else, takes a bullet for Anya or one of the other ladies. Then show a memorial at the end with all 3 brothers side by side.
I don't know why anyone would want the guy to live in the series. It just can't pack a punch like it would if he died.
@zityz: Him dying wouldn't exactly pack much of a punch either, running gag and all. Someone dying /= a better, more emotional moment automatically. It could, yes. But I personally can't see why people think killing off a character is the only way to achieve that.
Not that this is probably the thing people think about in concern to this whole thing.
Part of the old Carmines charm to me was that they were just rookies who wanted to help fight locust for the greater good and i was always sort of hoping that they'd make it out alive just to keep a more humorous or light hearted vibe to the story, now that this new Carmine falls into the same generic meat head category as all the other gears i really don't give a shit one way or the other if he lives or dies.. the inherent greenhorn vibe we got from the old carmine was a nice contrast to the other 4 dudes who only change slightly in appearance and are basically roid raging fuck heads.
IF he dies, the only way to go is to have him die in a glorious hail of gunfire. No less than 10 clips must be unloaded on him. I want to see him do the machine gun dance.
I wonder if the vote is really that close, or they're just saying that to drum up more votes. I have a feeling Carmine Must Die is leading by a wide margin.
