Cheese It, It's The Cops... The Burnout Cops, That Is

Rollers. The fuzz. The Man. Johnny Law. William Q. Copperton. Pigs. Officer Hernandez. Five-Oh. The heat. One-Time. Whatever you call 'em, police officers are on their way to Paradise City.

Criterion has released a teaser trailer for a piece of upcoming Burnout Paradise content, a Cops & Robbers pack. See it in action by looking at the large video window below this sentence and pressing the button that you think will start it playing! Do it!

I'm just making this up, but I'm going to guess that this mode involves a team of cops chasing down a robber or perhaps a team of robbers. Criterion hasn't really said much about it other than that it's "coming very soon."

As a side note, has anyone out there been keeping up with the paid downloads that have been coming out for Burnout Paradise? I was all psyched when they were announced, and after a year or so of great, free updates, it was interesting to see them transition into paid stuff and try to turn that loyalty into some extra bucks. But there are just too many other, newer games out there. I haven't really played Burnout Paradise since the PC version was released, and I haven't picked up any of the extras.

What about y'all?

more burnout sounds good to me

If this is any good, I might revisit burnout paradise for this.

This looks more interesting than anything they've released, thus far. Though, I'm still waiting on the Island. Also, I bought all of the add-on cars, minus all of the toys (except the GT).

Posted by SilverShadow

I got the legendary car pack and some of the transforming boost cars. I personally think that the DLC is worth it. I keep coming back and playing Burnout Paradise about every week or every other week because I love that game so much. Criterion is doing a great job at keeping me hooked.

More DLC? How much does the game with all the DLC content cost anyway?!

Posted by gingertastic_10

i havnt played this game yet :/...but with all the DLC i really want to get it, plus last time looked it 20 bucks, so i might get it, but i wouldnt pay for DLC after they offered so much free ones, unless i really liked the game

Posted by Sunjammer

I hear they're adding DLC that lets you sit on benches. Benches of Paradise city. You can hit boost for a power nap.

Posted by MattBodega

So wait. Hold on a second.
Did Criterion just announce that they were turning Burnout Paradise into Need for Speed Most Wanted?
Because that is a VERY GOOD IDEA.
You know how much I'm paying for this update? 5 GRAND!

Posted by theMcNasty

Their "Paradise" of freebie DLC development cash probably "Burnt Out."   Get it? So now they're charging us.  Why don't they just announce Burn Out 2 already.

Posted by Lunarbunny

Hmmm. Bah, I'm still not sure I feel like paying for any of the content, even if I did get the game for free (legitimately).

Maybe I just feel entitled.

Posted by RHCPfan24

I haven't bought any of the paid content yet, but this would be the pack I would get. NFS: MW and Burnout Paradise together is a good idea. I can get behind this.

Posted by Alexander

Midnight Club did more right for me out of the box. This addition is just too late and I'm not going back to Burnout.

Posted by AndrewB

I played Paradise for a while, but got distracted by a plethora of other games released around the holidays and more recently. I've got all the free stuff, and I'd certainly consider some of the pay stuff, except that none of that has seemed in any way interesting. I think cops and robbers would be the first pack I'd consider buying, though. It would be nice if it had some sort of single player component, since believe it or not, I've been playing Paradise all solo so far. Then again, solo cops and robbers would basically be a marked man scenario with cop cars.

I'm currently playing Burnout Paradise on the PC again with my 360 controller. It's a pretty good port. Didn't touch the new stuff yet.

Posted by Mourer

I played it recently, but I didn't buy any of the cars.  Seemed like to much to pay for me.

Posted by Venatio

Im still waiting for that Island update, and I just bought the Back to the Future DeLorean, I love Burnout Paradise

Posted by Jayzilla

man i wish they would do that with the next GTA. Make you a cop. You could choose to be good, or be corrupt. That would be a nice twist to that series.

Posted by PenguinDust

A cops and robbers chase element seems to be hedging into Need for Speed territory.  I'm not complaining, I'm just saying...

Posted by iAmJohn

I don't mind that they're offering paid content, but I think the car packs are way too overpriced.  Eight bucks for four cars?  Fuck that.

Posted by JJOR64

Don't get me wrong Burnout Paradise is an awesome game but, I'm ready for the next Burnout game.

Posted by Subject2Change

Hey it's Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for the PS1 all over again! However I did thorough enjoy that game as a kid...if I ever buy Burnout Paradise i'd prolly give a shot though.

Posted by xplodedd

i liked Paradise when I bought it last year... but there are so many new, and better games out that I just don't come back to burnout. Besides, I already had enough Paradise madness with the motorcycles and the shitty soundtrack...

Posted by Aaron_G

This new pack looks interesting.

Posted by BlackCyan

Yyyyyyyyeeeeeeesssssssss!!

Posted by HT101

I got the legendary car pack and the toy car pack but that's it.  The paid stuff is pretty good but the island sounds pretty sweet and I really want to know more about the Cops and Robbers pack.

Posted by zig

I guess enough people must still be buying this stuff if they keep making more.  I still pop the game in occasionally but I haven't bought any DLC because I know I'm not going to stay interested long enough to make it worthwhile.  The content the game shipped with was enough for me, because I don't really play multiplayer.  The bikes and night/day cycle were cool additions I guess.  I can't say they really added something to the game that I was missing.  Hopefully it's just a small team within Criterion working on this stuff.

The return of free content!!!

...hopefully for this one

Posted by Tirrandir

I bought the game for like ... 30 bucks a few months ago, and never really got into it.  But when this DLC came out, I started playing it, and I felt that the DLC was totally worth it since I was still paying well under the original retail price (I didn't own a 360 back then).  So I've been working on the game, getting further and all that, and I like the car packs that have come out.  I'm not big into the multiplayer, so I didn't get Party and I probably won't get this (this is a multiplayer thing, right?) but I'm into paying for more stuff.  Though now that I push towards my final license, I'm also wondering what's around the bend.

It's cool how they are making DLC for Burnout Paradise till the end of time it seems.

Posted by hyperslug

I love burnout but the paid DLC is WAAAY to expensive, even considering all the free stuff we got!

Posted by PLWolf

I've bought the legendary cars, the toy cars and that's it. We'll see how much they charge for the cops and robbers, before I decide to buy it or not.
I have been playing this still as it's great to boot it off the PS3's HDD real quick and chip away at my burnout license or complete some online challenges. Love this game.

Stopped playing about a week after release. Unless you're way hooked on racing, the game gets boring fast. And the lack of restart leaves you with no direction of what to do, so I play it for 20 minutes, lose a few races, and then turn it off. No amount of bikes, or cops is going to change that.

You do know they patched in a restart option, right?  You can use it whenever you want to.

Burnout's a great game.  I really gotta work on getting the Elite license.

Oh shiz it's da fuzz!

Posted by 2k_fish

Well the concept sounds awesome, but that's about the most boring trailer I've ever seen.  Besides, I haven't seen cops and robbers stuff done as good as it was back on the ps1 with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit or something like that.

I bought all the paid DLC, and am playing Burnout Paradise now. I only recently discovered all the Smashes, and am finally getting those last Stunt Run challenges under my belt so I can get an elite license. 5 wins to go. Also, 94:10:13 for time played. One of my favourite video games ever, I have no issues supporting it, no matter what they release.

I think, until they release more meaningful achievements they might not see much return. Hopefully this mode or the island will have some. Most people I know that were way into this game are all splintered now onto several other games. I myself am playing Fallout while the majority of the rest are playing RE5. That being said however I'm looking forward to this and will likely buy it. So far I've bought the legend cars and one of the mini cars. I want to get the boost pack but there's just been higher priorities lately.

Need For Speed Burnout indeed. You guys know your industry.

Posted by Matt_chew

I've got all the paid DLC so far. I have Midnight club LA but you don't get the same sense of speed that you get in Paradise, so I alternate between the two.

Posted by OzzerOzby

What Criterion has been doing with Burnout Paradise is awesome. It really make me wish that more developers would do what they are doing and support their games with awesome content. I bought the Legendary Cars pack and will (I'm assuming) pay for this too. All of my friends now have PS3's so my Burnout playing has increased as of late.

Oh, and does anyone else really miss Road Rash when riding the bikes?

Posted by ternim

If its a cops and robber gametype wouldn't that be very similar to marked man?

Posted by Cheapoz

I've done everything the game gives you to do, so new cars don't interest me until I've got something to do with them!

Edited by Falconer

There is also gold involved with Cops & Robbers apparently (according to the latest CrashTV). But yeah, nothing more than that.

I got the Legendary Cars when they came out, and they're pretty cool. The Nighthawk and the 88 Special are pretty good. I didn't bother with the Toy Cars. The midget biker is pretty funny, but it's definitely not worth 1000 points to me. But if there's one pack you get, make it the Boost Specials. The new Hot Rod is quite possibly the best car in the game. It's one of, if not the fastest car in the game. It can get the most barrel rolls out of any car (without glitching) and is AMAZING at flat spins. Finally, it has infinite boost. Seems like perfection to me.

I'll be getting Cops & Robbers if it's 800 points, but if it's 1200 then I'll need some convincing.

Posted by Tarakun

I'm still not through all the content we already have. That years worth of content? I got all that in one day. I need to play more Burnout.

Didn't Need for Speed have a mode like this? If it's a new gametype I'm probably going to buy it.

Criterion has really used up all their goodwill with me.

Great that they released two or three free patches with significant updated content. As I suspected, they ended up tricking people into using the "Well they gave me free content so I can afford to pay for this overpriced DLC as a retroactive thumbs up for the free stuff," argument. But I think after the atrocious Party Pack there are few people left who are willing to claim that.

Now we've got a bunch of extra cars, some priced in a semi-decent way, some priced in an offensive way, and some priced so fucking high you almost expect an EA executive to knock on your door brandishing a thick wooden stick after buying them. And yes, that stick goes straight in your ass.

This cops and robbers DLC seems just as greedy. The movie-inspired cars were essentially reskins of existing cars. These are reskins of existing cars as well (okay fine, they have to add lights on the top) and half of them are really goddamn lazy skins as I could make better looking cop designs if you gave me half an hour in Forza 2. What are they going to charge for the end mode and cop cars, anyway? Another ten bucks? Fifteen? At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if the mode was $10 and each cop car was $3 each or $10 for a pack of five, bringing the grand total on par with the full game.

Fuck you, Criterion. And EA.

Edited by PuppyKisses

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I cannot wait. Please Criterion, take my $10!

and DJ_Lae... chill dude. what do you want everything for free? tricked? really?

I'm down with the PCP (( Wow.. ))

Oooh, cops in burnout... finally.
...................
Burnout Paradise is brilliant, and the free bikes for anyone who doesnt have the ultimate edition is great.
But who in the right mind would spend that many microsoft points on a few vehicle, the "toy cars" is what im mainly talking about here.
Its ridonkulous
