Confusing Assassin's Creed Viral Material for Next Game Back Online

If you're the kind of person who enjoyes endlessly analyzing purposely-confusing videos designed to manipulate you for marketing purposes (to be fair, I was that person with Lost), do I have a proposition for you! Ubisoft prematurely launched their viral campaign for the next Assassin's Creed, reportedly titled Assassin's Creed: Revelations, but brought the virtual endeavor back online over this weekend.

To access the perplexing videos released so far, thanks to a continued parade of "Likes," head over to Facebook. The prevailing theory suggests Altair is back in the mix, though any real details are unlikely to come to light until whatever magazine scored the exclusive reveal has safely arrived on store shelves.

Didn't they announce Assassin's Creed for 3DS and we all forgot about it? This is probably that.

I love the Assassin's Creed series, but I'm not a fan of Altair. Hopefully it will be less about him and more about filling in present day story gaps. Too many of these side story/kind of main story line games might cause a lot of people to lose interest before the "final" game is even released.

One of the best franchises in gaming. Can't wait!

Altair was a terrible character, just an emotionless pawn furthering the story. At least Ezio has a personality and some actual motivation behind his actions. Hopefully they've learn't from their games since and actually give him proper depth this time.

Please just finish the Desmond story while we still care. The last thing I want is for this franchise to turn into Kingdom Hearts.

Just finish it. Assassins creed gameplay isn't exactly the greatest, I think everyone just wants to see a satisfying end to the story.

If its Altair its probably going to be a NGP or 3DS game. I really don't think a main series game would go back to Altair. I suppose the events in AC2 could mean he I might return at some point to the main series but  that was more of a loose end allowing them to make more games if they really wanted to I suspect.

Seeing how Brotherhood ended with a oh shit I can't believe that just happened way I am totally pumped for the next one. 

I'm excited for a new AC game, but this viral "facebook liking" crap is even more annoying than pointless teaser trailers.

I didn't like Altair at all in the first game, but I'm down for giving him another chance. Even if he still sucks personality-wise, at least they'll be able to give that time period the game it deserves.

Hopefully this'll be the last big stop before AC3. I'm pretty confident it will be. Next year is 2012, and I don't think they'll miss the opportunity to play up the whole world is ending thing in the marketing. Hopefully after that they'll give the series a break. I love these games, but if they keep releasing them annually my interest (and I imagine many others') in the franchise will start to decline.

If they can keep delivering the level of quality they have been with each successive game without letting the storyline go stale, I'll take it.  I feel like they might be stretching the mythology a bit thin, but returning to Altair should make for some interesting story elements.

Ugh. Altair was so devoid of personality in AC1. Hopefully he's either not involved or an NPC. Ezio was a huge step forward for the series, let's not make a step backwards.

I kind of get the feeling Ubisoft sort of shot themselves in the foot with Assassin's Creed.  It's really a unique franchise and has a very different gameplay approach, but the mechanics of it borrows so much from its other two preceding franchises--namely Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell--that they kind of have to put all their money in one pot.  They've made it so that it's difficult to go back to those other franchises without it feeling like a rehash of something now reinvented in AC. 

That's not to necessarily chiming into the "give us 10 more ACs" concern, but I think the only way they could break from only having this franchise is to create an all-new IP.  As for whether they go back to Altair or not, I could probably care less.  AC1 was what it was, and there are parts of it I liked quite a bit (the near-final duel where you take on a dozen crusaders after talking to King Richard was frustrating at first, but then was pretty cool once you got it to finally "click" and all the moves went together like a dance; I couldn't help smiling when that happened). 

While I desperately hope for another timeline DNA sequence to freshen the series up, the story progression with Desmond in Brotherhood makes it seem very unlikely they'll throw a 3rd 'past' hero ancestor into the mix.
