Cryostasis Demo Now Available

Given Cyrostasis' hoggy nature, it's probably a good idea to check out the demo before you purchase this inventive horror-game.

If you can get it to run, Cryostasis is a gorgeous game.
If you can get it to run, Cryostasis is a gorgeous game.
A playable demo of Cryostasis (which I recently reviewed) is now available allowing you to play a bit of this chilly Russian horror-mystery. The 1.1 GB download is now up on NVIDIA's nZone site. Mirrors are also available over at EVGA and Gamer's Hell.

If you're interested in buying the game I'd highly recommend checking the demo out first just to make sure the game runs well on your rig. Due to its single threaded nature Cryostasis is a bit of a system hog and highly dependent on your graphics card. Although the game has a couple other technical issues it's a shame there's not been better support from 1C and Action Forms Ltd. It really is quite a weird little gem and includes one of the better stories I've played through in awhile.

Yeah, no wonder, those pesky Eastern European developers with low budgets and bad QA ruined PC gaming!

Try the official forums for help, not GB.

I was curious about the XP/Vista situation too. Downloaded the demo (I run XP 64-bit) and it plays very well. Looks, however, leave a me  little underwhelmed. I'm guessing it takes advantage of DX10? Can anybody offer a comparison between DX10/9. Just to add, I'm running everything on high, V-sync enabled, etc.

Went to buy the game yesterday at GameStop and they looked at me quite confused and I walked out. Checked online both in Manhattan and Queens Zip Codes on the GameStop site and nothing in 100 miles of either zip code...looks like i'll have to order it online. Meh atleast NewEgg has free ship, no tax and cheaper price than gamestop.

I just took off V-Sync which isn't too big a deal... the game runs pretty well but hitches once and while with autosaves or when an enemy bursts in. Ran smooth otherwise and even when some enemies burst in, it was still fine. A few times the video would go black, and once I pressed ctrl+alt+delete, then it would return.

I really like the concept of the game, and the parts when you revive people. I just wish I knew what was going on from the demo, or where these revived people go. There are a lot of weird little bugs, but the water effects are pretty amazing... and the melting of everything in each room. I found I got confused with some of the backtracking, however it wasn't too hard cause I just looked for whatever door would open for me again. Didn't really get lost at all...

It locked up on me a couple of times during the demo, but I liked what I played.

Ahhh so I should be fine then, I looked at their requirements and it didn't seem too heavy just wanted to make sure. Ran F.E.A.R 2 perfectly on my system so yay. Haven't had issues with older games on Vista 64 bit yet, that could just be luck. Only issue i've had recently was installing Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy but there was a fix for it out. Recently played the original Far Cry with no problems besides the problems the game itself had as well as no problems with the original diablo

I've played about four hours of the full game so far and love it. Some people will be put off by the somewhat repetitive surroundings and gameplay but it is a really unique game and I think everyone should at least give it a try.

To be honest the story of the game isn't what has kept me coming back though; it's the atmosphere - from the visuals to the sounds I think Action Forms have really excelled, and with PhysX and XFi support, I am that much closer to justifying the purchase of my PC.

I might give a try. Though the reviews out there don't seem that positive.

This game spits in the face of my PC. Shame too, because even with the intense lag, I really liked what I played.

EDIT: After installing the latest version of the NVIDIA PhysX Software, the game now runs acceptably well. Rough in some situations, but for the most part, very playable.

I tried the leak last year.

The atmosphere seems fantastic, but the framerate wounds my pride as a PC gamer. And, considering how hot my PC got, most likely my PC itself, too.

If they've optimised it I'll buy the real version.

Dave curious as to what your Graphics card is? Running an 8800GTS G92 on an E8400 hoping I don't have much issue. Not gonna upgrade my rig for this game, it looks good but not 300 dollars good :p

I don't know about my "rig", but I'll see if it will run on my PC.

Why do PC-only gamers insist on surrounding themselves with so many pretentious pieces of nomenclature? "CRPG"? "My Rig"? GTFO.
